Default Pulley install on novi

I just changed my pulley to a 3.2 on my novo 1220. When I was changing it, the old pulley had a generous amount of loctite on it. I had to heat it up to loosen it off. I noticed when pulling on the pulley that the shaft had about 1/4" of play in it - forwards to backwards. It was almost as if the shaft was spring loaded. Anyone else notice this?

Hrmm that doesn't seem right. I can't see why there would be any free play in either of the pulleys.

I just checked my 3.2" pulley and it doesn't move at all.

It's in the shaft actually. When I was removing the pulley I had to pry between the s/c mounting bracket and pulley to get it loose. It took hardly any effort to feel the springing action when prying.

Do you mean the shaft is moving?

Yes. If you were to remove your belt and grap the pulley, you could pull it away from the charger and it springs back.

Disconnect the intake at the front of the compressor housing and see if you can push/pull/wiggle the impeller from the front. Also look for signs that the impeller has been rubbing the housing that surrounds it. That sounds like a lot of play. Check to see if you can replicate that from the front.

I checked the front when I installed it recently. Everything was nice and tight. No marring of any sort. I called Paxton and found out that they use a spring washer to hold tension on the bearing back there. The play I was feeling was the tension in the washer.

Funny, I never noticed that on any of my SC's?

I don't recall it either... but nevertheless, as long as you don't feel any wiggle/play at the front of the assembly and don't see any oil seeping out then all should be well.
