Default Question about Vortech "Black Box"

Hello everyone. I picked up an '04 Vortech Supercharged S2K (34k on the car, 2.5k on the Vortech Kit) last Saturday and have a question. Here it is, copied from my post in Introduction section from yesterday:

"I'm very impressed with the car, it is everything I dreamed it would be and more (never thought I'd have a SC'd one). Handling is superb, best I've ever driven. I took it to my buddy's dyno shop last night and she ran 316hp/214tq to the wheels (only other mod is a Berk 70mm HFC I installed the other night). Needless to say I was pretty impressed. One thing we were discussing last night at the shop (mostly a DSM shop) was, is there any way to tune the 'Black Box'? Or will I need to go with some kind of EMS? I have a water/meth kit I'd like to install as well (have had it for a year or so, brand new). Thanks everyone. I hope to drive this beast for many years to come!!"

The fmu and the stock injectors will be the limiting factor if you plan on upping the boost. There is no way of tuning the black box, as it just hides boost from your factory ecu.

If you want to upgrade, youll need management that will be able to control your bigger injectors. Aem seems to be popular, although not the only option. You'll also be able to tune it with the meth injection as well.

Management, injectors, a smaller pulley to raise the boost and a tune are what you need.

Once the management is in, you can take out the fmu and the black box.

P.s. A smaller pulley will void the supercharger warranty if it still in range and also you might want to consider a clutch if it hasn't been changed out.

To up the boost as said above you would need engine management and injectors and pulley/belt at the least. Upgraded clutch would be a good idea too.
Read one thread where some guy was talking about tuning the black box timing or something but can't add fuel or anything.

I would get an aem ems or similar, some ID1000cc injectors and a clutch of your choice and get it fully tuned. I would go right for a 3.8" or so pulley and go for 400whp+ Will be that much more of a blast!

If you get the software from Split Second you could change the AP1 timing controller only. I don't know if Vortech locked out the AP2 controllr with the Aux injector control. http://www.splitsec.com/products/R4/R4.html

If you want the software from split second I can send it to you for free as they charge you $50 just for a download link! I recently wasted my money on the software and then didn't even use it. I decided to get a Haltech ecu instead.

I've got the ap2 pulley on my kit, but I'm running it on an ap1. I made 280 whp. I want to upgrade the pulley/belt to something smaller so I can make more power. Does anybody have any idea how much a smaller pulley/belt would cost me?

^You have larger injectors already right?

A new pulley is usually around $100 or so. Got mine used for $75 shipped for a 4" pulley for 12 psi. It's an ASP pulley which I think is great as it has a lip on the edge so the belt can't wander off the edge of the pulley.

I've decided for the time being to keep the stock pulley. The power it's making is pretty darn good out of the box. I would like to check the air/fuel to see if it needs to be adjusted. The dyno shop I went to was having issues with his sniffer, so I only got my HP/TQ numbers.

Typically the non adjustable fmu from VT run too lean out of the box to be safe long term, you can get pre load spacers to further increase fuel pressure/fuel but it’s a crude method. VT makes another more versatile adjustable on the fly regulator, comptech as well, but these will set you back about $300, money well spent though if you plan on sticking with stock boost for a wile. Get set up with a wideband asap so you can see if you have a problem in the making. 315whp on stock injectors is really pushing them. You may very likely be running lean. Adding your meth kit is strongly recommended in the meantime, it will add fuel effectively lowering your afr and giving you a safety barrier to heat/detonation in an otherwise untuned car that is running too lean.

I don't have the extra injector. Do I need that?
