Thumbs up Question re: Water Temps

I ran into a new Z06 yesterday, and he wanted to play. Being happy to oblige, I dropped into 3rd and pushed the gas pedal to the floor. When I shifted to 4th tho, I noticed my water temp gauge was up to 215. Never having seen temps that high at WOT, I let off. Temps eventually came back down to 190s (it was @ 80 deg here yesterday) while cruising around town.

My question is what kind of water temps do you FI guys normally see at WOT? Is outside ambient temp a factor? What's the upper limit we can push to before it's considered "unsafe" for the motor?

BTW, I have AEM 1052, Koyo rad w/H20 & water wetter and fully built short block.

TIA

best upgrade you could do is lower fan switch and thermostat -
and yes we see those high temps here in florida - but with the mentioned mods it really seems to keep cooler.

No, I quickly let off after I saw my temps hit 215.

Live to fight another day tho.

Something tells me you did not re-calibrate the EMS thermostat stettings... PM "timg", as I believe he has the settings somewhere...

You need to re-calibrate some settings in an EMS table in order for the get the correct reading (it is wrong from AEM). Without re-doing the settings, the h20 temp will read 15-20 degrees hot.

As long as your fan is kicking on and off, the switch is working fine. I believe the Mugen one switches on at around 185, I believe. So, idle the car up, and see what your gauge reads when it flips on. If 15-20* higher than its supposed to, you need to correct your settings. My stock fans did not kick on until it read 215* without the re-calibration.

My temps never go above 205F (external water temp sensor), Fans kick in around 198F using my sensor and drop the temps down to 190F before turning off again.

where do you have the external sensor installed - if you say upper rad hose - that is not a true temp of the engine! really need a sensor mounted in the block.
