Questions from a future buyer
Considering getting a s2000.
Few questions.
How hard is it to do work on this car? (i.e cams, headwork, turbo etc.)
How much money would you be looking at to run a gt30 and make around 350-400???
Also what would be required to run that as far as internals etc?
Thanks guys!
Jack

What i can tell you straight away is that, 350whp seems to be safe on stock compression as even kits that promote as reliable have that much power.
Then again there are plenty of guys with alot more on an untouched engine.
I myself have had the ILP kit with a gt3076r .82 a/r. Very good match imo.
I live in Sweden, had a strong currency towards the dollar, had issues with customs and had to pay big money for the shipping, so I ended up at like 9-10k somewhere for parts. (Clutch aswell) Then tuning 2 times (One time required if you don't run into unforseen problems at a good tuner ofcourse.)
So maybe 11-12k? Bet it would have costed 8k in the states all in all.
I have not done any mods to my engine, but judging from everything I have read about it, it doesn't seem hard to work on the engine. There is plenty of room under the hood. Putting a turbo and some piping in there is mostly a walk in the park.
Replacing the clutch took me 3,5hours with a friend thats very much experienced with wrenching about any car that excists. And I got some experience myself aswell.
The fuel pump change was abit more tricky, might have taken like 4-6 hours all in all, but mostly due to being new to it. I followed a nice tutorial posted by a member on these forums.
I ran into injector limitation at 325whp (was running e85). Had 350 at the dyno but realized the injectors duty cycle was too high.
Depending on your year model you have different opportunities when it comes to engine management. I used aem ems for my previous 05 car, and had to order that tempindicator addition from modifry to get temp display to work. On newer cars you have to run something thats compatible with throttle by wire, and as far as i know, only kpro is. What kpro isn't sure of yet tho, is if their system is compatible with the european 2.0L version with drive by wire.
Things I had to get that I didn't know I needed when starting the build.
-Modifry temp display fix
-Electronic boost control valve, Simply the boost was droping up high making the torque curve droping to much at higher revs.
-Aftermarket fuel pressure regulator. I wanted to increase FP slightly to get more flow through the injectors.
-Probably alot more of minor stuff I've forgotten.
I did the conversion mostly because I wanted to learn and havin a fast car aswell. Infact i liked it so much I am trying to get my new s2000 into the same shape, but more problems have arrived with the newer models.

First it is very easy to get that kind of power out of the S. If you want an easy install and dyno queen a supercharger is your best bet. If you are looking for some torque a turbo is the only way to go. If you do it right the first time with a nice kit from Inline I would expect to invest 7-12K.
Base kit, Head gasket, ECM, Fuel System and tuning = 5-10K
Clutch = 1K
Extras = 1-20K
Other important items would be wheels for wider tires, rear exhaust, springs and retainers...........
From my experience it is very hard and expensive to get that kind of power from a car like the STI, EVO, Mustang, Camaro and other mid level performance cars. The difference is in them and the Honda has perfect brakes, suspension, seats, 6speed and how can I forget a convertible top.
I looked at a Boxter S (Too Expensive and not easily upgraded), 350Z (not for me), Vette ( C6 and Newer are too expensive and costly to upgrade), Sky Redline ( Just Hi the Lot and Selling Over sticker, Lack of Turbo Upgrades) before I decided to buy my S.
I found that you have to spend lots of money to beat the S in the fun area. If you want to race it, then don't put on the turbo and run it N/A without spending much to be competitive. If you want raw power than buy a used ZO6 or SC Cobra and throw in a few grand.

seriously The search has EVERYTHING that you ask.
if the car is bone stock and you want everything to be safe and reliable with a gt30 on the car with about 350whp. its gonna cost about 15k. Clutch/rear end/head gasket/turbo kit/shitload's of labor/ injectors/ this isn't a cheap car haha

^You don't not need to put a different rear end in a 350 whp S. Just don't launch it a lot and you will be fine. Never launch above like 4K!! 15K seems pretty high. I have heard in the 10K area, but you can put as much money as you want to. Just do a lot of research. The info you get on just this thread will not be enough, trust me.
How hard would it be to install this kit?

Im guessing I would just need exhaust and injectors and a tune to complete that?
Would you all suggest this kit, or putting together my own?
