Roots type supercharger for DBW?
I thought someone had basically taken a DBW and converted it to a 2004 ECU and throttle cable setup and had used the roots in a racing application but maybe that was my imagination.
I love my kit. I think people who have 2005 and older should not let the SOT out of the performance business be a worry to purchase a kit from James. It comes with some spefically-made-for-the-kit brackets that are very strong, and the rest is made up of sourcable off the shelf parts. Except for the unique mounting bracket and perhaps the new throttle body, I could find just about whatever I need to replace a broken part, but since things are really solid in the kit, I am not worrying about anything breaking.

Has anyone been successful in a DIY install of the root type to a DBW system? I also have an 07 and the only options appear to be just Centrifugal/Rotrex now...not that its a bag thing but i like that positive displacement linear characteristic.
One thing many people are missing on the Roots vs Centerfugal debate is efficency.
The s2000 has a very long power band, about 2500-3000 rpms longer than most cars. Roots blowers are great for low and mid engine speeds but struggle to keep up @ high rpm on the s2000 and it begins to fall out of the efficeny range much like a small turbo would. This is not normally an issue on a car which only revs to 6k and where people expect low and mid end power anyways.
On the s2000, this results on tire spinning tq and run to drive around town but when it really comes down to it a Vortec/Rotrex setup will ultimately be faster in a race.
When I had my 350whp Kraftwerks powered s2k I raced an SOT powered roots s/c'd ap2 with 350whp. We were both running about the same 10psi and made about the same power on paper. However in the real world, the efficency and powerband of the KraftWerks Rotrex supercharger proved more effective and I pulled on him once rpms reached redline.
Lets not also forget the overall simplicy and cleaness of installtion which comes with vortec/rotrex kits. Roots kits end up being a total disaster in the engine bay.

I bought camuman's SOT kit. I am building a 2.4 liter stroker that will only rev to about 7500 RPM, so should be perfect. I'll be giving more info in the near future, as my car is finally coming out of paint shop this week. Can't wait to have a stop light bruiser in a S2000 shell.
