AFAIK the rotrex is just a viscous coupled centrifugal compressor. If there were some planetary gears that spun it faster at lower input rpm's and then backed it off at higher rpm I could see it. Unfortunately a variable speed drive would be extremely expensive.
Actually, the Rotrex drive system is a planetary gear system; that's how the Rotrex speeds the compressor. We call it a traction drive, but it essentially is a planetary gear drive. That's what allows the Rotrex to spin at such high RPMs.

Don't get me wrong, I am keeping an open mind about this kit and will definately consider it. I just don't see it making the same numbers low down as the gredduy kit.

The first ever dyno of a greddy kit on a stock car is here https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showt...post&p=10392127
it was making about 190 ft lbs at 3600. That was the first dyno on the first car done back in april. A tune (which will make it non carb legal if it ever gets carb approval) will release a bit more power.
The only dyno I have seen claiming to be the rotrex kit is here: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showt...post&p=11402594
which clearly shows it not making 190 until 6000 rpm. As with the other centrifugal systems it makes more tq after that pint than the small turbo does at 3600 but if you want low down power...

good point.
I wouldn't go too far and say that the rotrex is "best of both worlds".
I see them as a centrifugal SC, but with better low end torque. Of course, not enough torque compared to turbos.

But what about reliability? And simplicity of the install/uninstall?
Those are also the advantages I appreciate.
I do love the torque of a turbo, but if I could get more reliability in sacrifice of some low end torque, ...
wait.. this is turning into another turbo vs. SC debate.
I don't wanna get there.
Sorry, but I think you get what I'm saying.

I'm VERY interested in this kit, and definitely think that it's superior than the current centrifugal superchargers.

Can't wait!

for my personal experiense, i like the Rotex SC, as u can see at the dyno paper on the Greddy TC, the power and the tor goes so uneven, which means when u making a hight speed cornering , it might give u over steer or spun out if it kicks in by the time u turn the wheels.
But look at the Rotex dyno sheet, it looks so clean like an NA power car, and that way u will making much more faster and much more smoother on the cornering , expecaily on track racings.

And that is why for some reason, lots of Track fellas don't like turbos, they'll either spent tons of $$ to make a good NA tuned or SC = less $ but not lags.

depends what u going to drive ur car.
if u want to drive the car on the street , and some street races then go for GReddy Turbo charge.
but if u also want ur car to run at the Track then Rotex,
just look at the dyno sheets from both of them.
