Default Running too lean ? Please help me understand.

Hello Everyone,

After a few hundred miles on my new KW High Boost, I decided to take it down to a local performance shop to have a base dyno run performed.

I live in Colorado at between 6200 and 7300 ft above sea level so I expected my gains from NA to FI to be lower thatn what has been posted by many on S2Ki.
I am running stock HFC and exhaust.
The shop told me I am running too lean yet they recommended a test pipe. I thought this was contradictary? At this altitude I would have guessed that I would be running a bit rich; though I don't smell any gas from day to day driving.
I've read the the latest berk TP does not have the stink. The Berk HFC would also be another option; not concerned of costs as long as I can keep the smell away and keep noise level to minimum. For me, I am happy with the power and not in need of any additional Hp/Torque. But I do want to maintain reliability and prevent disaster.

Any thoughts on the graphs ? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated regarding a tesp pipe vs HFC vs not changing anything. I am new to reading Dyno numbers (first time).

Thanks for reading.

Do you remember them putting a sniffer into your exhaust (a long object thats clamped to the tip of your exhaust.

If so then thats how they are getting the air/fuel reading which is wrong because the stock cat would lean out the mixture, hence getting a testpipe would make it read richer (or more correct, an a/f sensor pre-cat would be ideal) on their dyno.

Yes they did. It was mentioned that the Cat would mis read the numbers a bit.
It was suggested to me that I get a Test Pipe.
Were u able to see the graphs ?

No I dont see it but pretty much made a good guess to what could of gotten you those lean numbers.

You dont need to get a testpipe just to pay them for another couple runs to get a/f.
I am pretty sure the reflash is rich enough with your exhaust setup and since the air is less dense where you are at I really doubt its lean.

In a nutshell I am at 12.5 ratio. I agree I think your input is valuable.
It was suggested I run about 11.5 and not too far away But.....
Thank you for the insight.

Cat or not, sniffers are not an accurate form of afr measurement on our cars anyway. I have a TP and could not even get a proper reading anything bellow 18:1. If you run a single it would be easier to get a reading, but it still wont be as accurate, the best way to go is a TP with an aux sensor bung for your own wideband, or theirs to get a proper reading by 02 sensor.

12.5afr is safe for the street. Just keep your cat on.

i would trust the KW hi boost tune. they should have tuned it at multiple load points, so with you seeing less boost way the heck up there in the clouds it would just hit a lower load point on the tune map. should be fine. is that 12.5 at the tailpipe that they read? if so theres nothing to worry about, you read richer up by the header collector by .5-1.0. your fine.
