Thumbs up running turbo with E85?

there are few stations carry E85 in my area, and my tuner suggest me to run E85 with 1600c injectors and additional inline bosch fuel pump, I just finish install my lovefab kit with gt35r and laskey built motor, this is going to be my weekend car so getting gas is not a big deal.

In short get a new tuner, because the one you have is going to blow up your engine. I'm sure your tuner saw E85 and thought high octane therefore it'll reduce detonation. The problem is he missed the fact that enthanol produces about 25% less energy than gasoline. E85 is probably aroung ~20% less energy than gas. To make up the difference you're going to have to run 20% more boost to get equal power.

But the power loss isn't the biggest issue. Ethanol is highly corrosive. Without modification it will eat through your fuel sysem. It also may affect the seals in the engine. Would want ethanol eating through my piston rings or head gasket.

There is a reason why vehicals are flex fuel. They have been designed to be such. The s2000 has not. I'd run away from that tuner as fast as possible. I doubt his credibility for the job. But if you have any doubt call laskey racing and ask them if you should use E85 in thier motor.

this is very reputable tuner, he tuned fullrace's s2000, and have few customers running on E85. there lots of guys on honda-tech are running on E85 with no issues, but I didn't notice anyone running them on our s2k, maybe I should stay with pump gas for now, but it's hard to resist the $2 / gallon 105 octane javascript:add_smilie("")

Yep, stay on pump gas and it qouldn't hurt to put a water/methanol injection system on.

The only benefit for running E85 would be for emission reasons, not for longevity or performance.

e85 is 100-105 octane depending on your station. it burns cleaner but does take more of it to produce the the same numbers(less dense). thats why he is asking for larger injectors. it is a type of fuel people, if the car is tuned for it it will be fine, actually more than fine like running race gas all the time. and at 2.xx a gallon it cant be beat. do your research, there are alot of people running this already and making very good numbers on it. im also going e85 in the spring- i say go for it.. by the way tony is doing my car also. ask him about the black s2k in okc.

Read this to get the proper information. It is still relatively new so you may get misinformation from people who do not know what they are talking about.

There is a very reputable tuner in my area who has had great results using e85

E85 is a viable fuel for high powered turbocharged vehicles. There are some limitations to it, but assuming that you have your fuel system in order, you should be fine. It typically makes more power than normal pump gas, but you need a LOT more fuel to do so. The guys in the SAE CSC were seeing more power with E85, but better fuel economy with E15.

From what I've read E85 is a viable alternative to racing gas however there are drawbacks to racing fuel as well as benifits too(price)

You need more C/R to reaps the benefits and of course the fuel delivery system will need an upgrade

Hot Rod magazine did a comparo on a BB chevy and it more mid range torque and hp with E85 than 110 racing gas at a savings of over $3 a gal.
