Default S/C or Turbo

I need opinions ...... early next year, I plan on dumping around 4K under the hood. My friend has a S/C S. Love the sound. But, I'm a turbo fan. I was reading a thread bout the guy that finally dino'd his S with turbo n hit 226rwhp or sumthing like that, and it sounds like turbo has a lot of problems unless you get it to run right. Choices choices ..... help me out ma fellow S2K peeps. Much appreciation.

Use the "Search" function in the forums and you will find lots of answers to your questions, more than what you will get out of this thread.

I chose to go with s/c.

There is no way to smog the turbo setups. Living in California, stick with the superchargers.

With 4k you may be able to pick up a aused supercharger and install it yourself. A good turbo set-up isn't even close. For turbo double or even triple the 4k to do it right the first time.

I spent over a year, reading posts here, and talking to guys like XViper, before deciding to go with a Comptech kit. Since I've only just ordered the kit, I'm certainly no expert, but what I can do is explain the reasons I decided to go that way. I'm sure XV or some of the other experts will correct me if I get any of my "facts" wrong.

The decision, turbo or belt driven supercharger, has to be made based on what you're looking for from the car, and what you want/expect to spend. One of the lovefab dyno runs shows a fat, almost ruler flat torque curve, so it appears that a good turbo setup will deliver more torque at a lower RPM. Based on what I've read here I'd go with a turbo if power was the only factor. I also like the fact that a turbo setup can be equipped with a variable boost controller, making it possible to change boost levels without changing pulleys. The thing that turned me off about all the turbo setups I've seen is the tuning, which in some cases seems to equal or exceed the cost of the turbo kit itself. Comptech and Vortech supercharger kits are plug-n-play, and have been well proven in the field. Since my car is a daily driver, I didn't want to sacrifice proven reliability. A man has to know his limits, and I know I'm in over my head when it comes to tuning something like an AEM EMS, and I want to do the install myself, so the plug-n-play supercharger kits suit my needs better than any of the current turbo kits.

i definitely would go with the SC because it's less hassel, plus it's a straight forward plug and play kit, and you'll love the power it makes.

dont mean to highjack the post. but i have a comptech sc w/ ac kit for sale if you're interested.

i had turbo before with my last car. and turbo is fun when it runs good but when something goes wrong its a bitch to trouble shoot. my car was running super consistant then i threw some electronics and it went all crazy....

i'm going with the SC cause it'll make the kinda power that i want and after reading about other people experiences on the boards about the reliabilty i was pretty much sold.

i decided to go with the comptech vs the vortec cause the kit is less intrusive, it makes about the same power with less boost, the kit has been around longer, and reading the dyno charts i went with the one that makes power in hte post vtec range, but mostly i just thought that the comptech agtercooler looked nicer teeeheeeee

Out of curiousity, where have you seen someone spend $4000-$8000 for tuning?
