Default S2000 1/2 Mile World Record

For anyone that has been following my build, you know that I have been interested in the 1/2 mile racing as well as the 1/4 mile stuff. I really wanted to build the car to do a number of things well, and not just be a 1/4 queen. I did my first event back in November of 2015 with my stock long block 62mm turbo setup and was hooked instantly. The car did really well for what it was and went 171mph with about 620whp.

The S2000 1/2 record at that time I think was somewhere around 185mph, which I thought was at least within reach if I built the motor and addressed some aero things I discovered at my first attempt. I ended up having a ton of drivetrain problems for the next 1.5-2 years unfortunately, but once I got that figured out and addressed in early 2018, I reset my eyes on the 1/2 stuff. With another 200whp or so I headed up to Colorado in the summer of 2018 to compete at the Shift Sector Pikes Peak Airstrip Attack. I fell in love with this event back in 2015 when I was up there, and couldn't wait to actually compete in it. The elevation really hurt me up there as the car was only making about 24-26psi of boost when it had made 32-33 back home in Dallas. Even with that I managed to lay down a pretty impressive 181mph and the car got a ton of attention for what it was doing!

Although I didn't get the WR, I knew that I could get it with my normal power level. I didn't end up competing at any other events that year and instead concentrated on competing at TX2K the following year and making some other improvements on the car. Some bad timing of breakages and focusing on things like World Cup Finals ended up not allowing me to compete in any 1/2 races in 2019 although I did have a ton of success 1/4 mile racing. I knew for sure 2020 I was going to compete, but with the impact of Covid-19 my opportunities were becoming few and far between. A couple of weeks ago it became clear my only shot was going to be the Indianapolis Airstrip Attack put on by Shift Sector again... in Indy... in the middle of the summer. With the heat and humidity, I knew my work was going to be cut out for me. I had little doubt I could break the World Record, which was now 187mph, but I also thought I may have a chance to break the 200mph barrier as well. This is no easy task, as only one other Honda of any kind has done so and it makes waaaay more power than mine. Fast forward to the race weekend and things really got started well! My first shakedown pass around 33psi netted me 191.68mph! I managed to break the WR really not even trying that hard. I turned the car all the way up on boost, played with some different aero things over the weekend and managed to get up to 199.60mph! I did everything in my power to get to 200, but the increasing DA over the day Sunday ended up costing me. As I am sure you can imagine I was thrilled with having a car perform flawlessly at WR levels all weekend (made 10 full 1/2 passes at over 1,000whp...), almost going 200mph, and now having the title. There should be a solid video from 1320 coming out, but here are some pics to hold you over!

Very cool man, congrats! I hope to be there soon as well, as soon as Carey Bales finishes my S for me.

Let me ask... Did you keep the stock steering rack or go with a different ratio? I'm asking because I have heard that the stock ratio can become twitchy at high speeds.

Rounding...you hit 200mph. That’s freaking awesome. The amount of work that goes into something like this is unreal. Very big congratulations! Super cool.

It's all still stock, my car honestly feels incredibly planted. The only real issue I have come across is rear lift, but steering hasn't been scary.
