Sad news :(
This is a truly large loss to the automotive scene. Earl was a great guy - helped me a lot with my build. I just spoke with him on Wednesday, telling him about how well my car is doing with his motor.
He will definitely be missed.

Man that's terrible news. I planned to acquire a spare motor at some point and ship it off to him.
Hey Rash or anyone, is the shop going to continue to do business?
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

I was too upset to post when I read this late last night.
Earl Laskey was a very dear friend of mine. To me, he will always be a role model for his earnest and frank approach to life, family, friends and business. He was the type of father that would do absolutely anything for his son as he understood the compulsion and obsession that competitive racing demands.
The last time I saw him was at Mike's last Pomona Drag race in November.
Earl was among the most honest and sincere gentleman I have had the pleasure of knowing.
Dear sir, you will be deeply missed.

Like most others, I only knew him over the phone. He made me feel comfortable with my lack of technical knowledge while still being able to answer my inquiries.
From reading the linked article, he was rather young(62).
The fact that he and his son were able to spend time together(again, reading from the article), sharing a common interest, is truly priceless. Everyone of us who has lost a parent, early in life or not, knows that feeling of wanting just one more day.
If Earl never made it known that he was ailing, I am happy that his suffering has ended. If his passing was sudden, I am thankful his family did not have to suffer through a long, painful attempt to arrest something like cancer.

This is very sad news indeed. I just spoke to Earl last week and he gave me advice on the do's and dont's of my engine rebuilt, he just knew me on the phone as the guy from Phoenix. He always took the time to answer my questions in a professional manner. My condolenses go out to his family.
I am shocked and saddened by this news. Earl built me a bulletproof engine and always took the time to answer my questions. He never rushed me off the phone and made me feel like I was the most important person to him during the moments we spoke. You will be missed Earl.
