Default "Sorry, you can't upgrade to a 3" downpipe..."

I have an Ultimate Racing Kit ... the first generation.

the dumptube from the wastgate circulates back into the downpipe (the first gen kit does that... now they are on gen 3 which does not recirculate...). well anyways... I wanted to upgrade to a 3" downpipe and I was thinking I could just replace it with a 3" downpipe (and some other minor parts).

..WRONG. 'U.R.' stated via phone that's not possible. the downpipe I have is a 5 bolt, rather than a 4 bolt. So I can't upgrade without changing my turbo, my manifold, a new wastgate, and a dumptube... [ohh yes I was pissed]

they also stated that the difference would be off by only appx 20whp's with my setup.

Should not have bought UR...
Perhaps I can get a custom 3" DP???

Other Options???

Trace your flange and send it to weirtech. He'll cut you one for $25 and can make you a balln' down pipe if you want. The man is a TIG master. He's also got a crx with a f20 swap!

You CAN have a 3 inch down pipe, provided you make it yourself! Check apt turbo's website they have 5 bolt to 3 inch adapter peices. But you will need to learn to weld.

2nd that!

I had to weld my dual! And on top of that, it first time ever, in my entire life, that I actually tried to weld anything. I bought a bunch of pipes and bend and flanges and 2 straight-through silencers, no cat, all in 3 inch, and went welding! It's not pretty, but who's looking? It's still holding up, still flowing well.

exactly. working with a car like this it is NOT unusual to have a substantial ammount of custom work. get you a flange and have a shop weld that hoe to the top of the new dp. step 2, get ya a wastegate dump and run it about 7 inches from the ground pointing directly at the asphalt. let the deafening bliss begin

most 5bolt flanges dont really accommodate a 3inch dp very well. you end up having to grind on them for days to get the opening to 3inch and use allen head nuts b/c there isnt room for a 12mm head.

The original poster is correct. We switched to a 4-bolt T31 style turbine housing when we changed from Gen 1 to Gen 2. A production 3" downpipe was never offered for the Gen 1. The original poster asked what his options were, so I gave him the option to upgrade to a Gen 3 setup since he wanted something "bolt-on". The parts he'd need to replace (obviously) were the manifold, turbocharger, and downpipe. He had already upgraded his wasetgate to a Tial 38mm (which we also upgraded to in Gen 2) so that was not necessary. He did sound a bit upset with me on the phone as well, I really don't understand why though
