sos supercharge with base map and stock clutch.
Hi Guys, i'm almost finish installed sos stage 2 tuner. just the fuel pump. So my question is: can i test drive with boost before get tune. i talked to Jeff at sos, he told me to take it to tune right after installed b/c ems had only base map. Also, how much boost i can get with stock clutch? Note; i upgraded 3.8 11psi pulley, aem ems. Is it good idea to wait for upgrade clutch to get tune so i can get the max hp out of it? it's around $400 to get tune where i lived, thanks for your opinion.
Agree with all of that.
You may be able to drive it like a granny, but that's a big risk. If you MUST drive it, I'd have the stock injectors put back in, the blower disconnected, and the stock ECU put in. The injectors and belt are easy to put in at the tuner.
And...my stock clutch slips after 8.5K...with a 4.8" pulley. You'll probably frag your clutch on your first dyno run.

The base map is just that. Base!!!!! And if it's the base map in aem then it is not set up for boost at all. Clutch and then tune. And ur gonna have to uninstall some stuff to put clutch in. Clutch should always be first.
thanks for the advice. can the tuner set up a low boost. say; 7 lbs for stock clutch until i change the clutch. or i have to get the blv{boost limited valve} note: {i have ems with 3.8 11bls pulley}. thanks
Definitely get it tuned asap. You can't limit the boost, but maybe he can limit the rev limiter or something. I'd just get the clutch first or just put in a 7 psi pulley for now until you can get a clutch installed.
You could run a low-boost pulley until you get a clutch, but the clutch WILL go out within a few weeks to a few months. To do the clutch, you'll have to uninstall some stuff (blower/intercooler) but it's not as bad as it sounds...maybe an extra 2 hours. Intercooler will come right out, and you can then just undo the 4 SC bracket bolts and take it out. You'll have to re-do oil fittings; the "in" is easy, but the "out" is a PITA...you could just leave that hose connected to the blower, though.

Stock clutch can hold fine on stock pulley for many people. I had mine in with 130K plus miles on it for about a year. Slipped slightly once in a while above 8k but not much at all. Made 343whp with the stock clutch too.
My stock clutch would not hold with the base/6 psi kit. I do have a few bolt-ons however. It would slip in 3rd and up in the upper end. On the SOS, the blower does NOT have to be removed to install a clutch. My mechanic only had to disconnect and move the AC. He didn't even have to do that with CT due to shape of its AC.
I was so dumb of not change the clutch in the beginning. it wasnt in my mind until i almost finish sos kit installed. what is the best clutch and flywheel you guys having?. Any opinion? i prefer stock clutch feel. i was offer act hdd clutch and competition flyheel combo. Are there other brands better than this? thanks again (too bad, sos kit came with 3.8" pulley, which i ordered.)
