off topic...where have you been? I never see you post anymore.
Just doing other things. Still spend a bit of time in AU forum but busy with a bit of work stuff recently.

Nice to know I'm missed.

Why would you prefer to tap the griddle than the pan?

the oil ends up in the same place, the pan get's it there quicker, it's easier to replace the pan, vortech recomends the pan.

did I miss something?

On most cars the top of the pan is just below the centreline of the crank so tapping it is no problem. Because our car uses the ladder frame girdle (a major reason it can rev so hard) the pan is lower and shallower.

So tapping the pan is a fairly low point. I expect Vortech do it because it's easier rather than recommended. But the girdle is defintiely the better point.

All that said, I tapped my pan and haven't had an issue.

The reason you should tap the girdle and not the pan is restriction. You want zero restition on the oil flowing out of the turbo. If you have oil sitting in the line because the return line sits at a level below the oil level in the pan it will restrict the oil exiting the turbo. That being said, I too have my pan tapped and haven't had any problems. Now on my new set-up I am going into the girdle but that's for clearance issues more than anything.

The reason Vortech taps the pan instead of the girdle is that their return line is much longer (less chance of restricting the oil).

Definitely interested to see what the kit dynos. Since the S is now paid off and a 3rd car, I will most likely go the budget turbo kit route.

With that turbo, 7-8psi and a decent tune, he should have no problem reaching 300+whp
