Default stock flywheel?

i know the ap2 has a pretty heavy flywheel like 20 pounds and people like to use 13 pound ap1 stock flywheels. but as someone who is trying to get boosted soon and is on a budget. is a lightened flywheel really a must for boosted applications? i have been led to believe it doesnt make as much of a difference boosted as it does and is more noticable when your n/a. any input or opinions are appreciated, thanks.

So, you can pay $4,000 or so for a SC, but you can't spring another $300 for a lightened flywheel?

Ha! None of these mods are "needed" will you notice a performance difference? Absolutely! The 22lbs ap2 flywheel is an absolute ridiculous amount of spinning inertia your motor has to overcome, robbing you in any hp configuration. I Run a 8lbs Findanza, ran it on my N/A f20/ Boosted f20/ and now on a boosted f22. Same flywheel, wouldn't trade it for anything.

Think of it this way, your spinning 22pounds in the flywheel, your pistons/rods/crank weigh how much total? Lose 14 pounds off your engine moving parts, whats the percentage of free weight you removed from your power source? 25-40%? Not to mention the added life you will add to your main bearings and clutch. If you guys are talking about getting the max performance per your dollar for your car, ts a no brainer to incorporate a flywheel. I can list half a dozen more reasons to have one and cant think of one negative.

no i really cant afford i am piecing my kit together slowly, which was why i was asking this question. just trying to get boosted within a year, lol. i only have a used pfab manifold and a used garret 60-1 as of now.

and i alwasy thought 9 pounds was too light for an ap2, guess not. thanks for the info guess, i think i will just be patient and spend the extra money

Both S/C and Turbo needs rev's to get up to positive boost, why "wouldn't" you want to help your car get to it's power band quicker?
