Default Supercharged clutch options and injector question

Hey all, I recently picked up a 2001 Comptech Supercharged s2000 that dyno'd at 350/217 running at 9psi I believe with 650cc injectors. It has the ACT HDSS Clutch Kit and ACT Streetlite 11.2lb flywheel. Driving the car around town is fine, I got used to the stiffness of the clutch. I even taught my girlfriend how to drive stick with it.

But once I started my job in San Diego, CA, it's literally stop and go traffic at rush hour. The stiffness is literally killing my body dealing with it and the constant clutch buzz from the ACT is pretty bad After doing some research I wanted to check with you guys to what my best options were to get a more friendly clutch since the torque isn't that high in the first place.

-Would switching to the SOS sport clutch completely help? (I read it has some chatter at low speeds tho ) Or perhaps even the Competition clutch stage 2?
-Or would getting the an OEM friction disk to replace the ACT one soften the clutch at all and eliminate the clutch buzz?http://www.hondapartscheap.com/honda...=disk-friction

Basically I wanted a clutch that is much more softer and has no noise, with torque levels below 250 ft/lbs I definitely think the ACT HDSS is overkill.

And my last question is, this car was originally tuned on 93 octane, is it worth upgrading to 1000cc injectors? Or should I just stick to the 650cc?

Thanks and happy to finally be a part of the s2ki community!

If you switched fuels your car deserves a check-up at a tuner to make sure its running OK on the new fuel. I'm assuming you've switched over to 91 octane there in Cali? At that power level I would guess that your current injectors would be fine. If you want to up the boost anytime in the future, just upgrade to the ID1000's when you do.

In my experience, the pedal pressure on the ACT HD pressure plate and the pressure plate that comes in the SOS Sport Kit are about the same force. Both of which are only slightly harder than the OEM pressure plate.

Using an OEM friction disc will help with any clutch buzz or chatter that you may have with your current setup. The SOS Sport Kit does still have some low speed chatter that I believe an OEM friction disc would rectify.

You *might* get away with using a fully OEM clutch system (pressure plate and friction disc) at your power level. Your numbers sound just a tad high for a 9 PSI setup (at least to me) so that hints that those are DynoJet numbers probably? I know that when I was at 7 PSI my numbers were 300 WHP and 175 WTQ on a Mustang dyno and the OEM clutch held that just fine. If you are doing a lot of daily driving in traffic, I personally would risk it and put on all new OEM clutch components. Pretty sure there is a member on here with silly high numbers for an OEM clutch setup and he said its holding.

Edit - Here is a quote from that guy from the other clutch thread:

5. Power level (HP and TQ): 360whp 220 tq
6. Use (street or track): daily driver, 1 track session while boosted
7. Est mileage on setup: bought the car used but i think its the original clutch, car had 74k when boosted, now at 84k
8. PROS/CONS about set-up: first day i got the car back from my tuner the clutch slipped badly during 3rd gear pulls. after a while it stopped. holding on decent but i feel like my clutch is wearing out. been 10k since ive been boosted and hasnt slipped again. (ive taking it up hills and around almost everywhere since i DD)

Future plans to get the act plate and ap1 flywheel

Thanks, ya I'm going to tune it for 91 octane. But wasn't sure if the 1000cc injectors would increase the power by a lot or if it'd be even worth it as that'd be another $400 to spend.

Yep, the previous owner dyno'd it on a dynapak, so the numbers are a bit high. Dang I was hoping the SOS sport kit would be softer as it is rated lower. Does having an OEM friction disc affect the stiffness at all? Or is that all pressure plate

Welcome to the community. The pressure plate determines stiffness.

I have to disagree with coolguy on the pressure plate stiffness. The SOS sport clutch feels like stock pedal. No way it compares to the feel of the act. You won't get a softer pedal with an aftermarket clutch over the SOS. My experience with chatter was only slight and when going in reverse sometimes. It wasn't a very smooth friction disc combo when compared to stock, but still less annoying then what you have now I'm sure. Yes the stock friction disc will eliminate that cork with SOS and its an improvement in smoothness and buz with the act pp as well. Problem with SOS is they wont sell you just the pp. Its underrated at their claimed 255trq. I make close to 300trq/450whp. Your kit at max boost will struggle to hit 250/400.

My stock clutch would slip with a hard shift with my sos 1220 at 6psi. My car was at 70K at the time, when I did my clutch i was shocked to find that my friction disk looked pretty new. I was actually mad i had bought a new one.

I have an act hd pp with everything else oem including the fiction disk. My pedal stiffness over stock is minimal. No buzz never. I have done 3 dragstrip events with DR and 5k numerous clutch dumps, and 1 hdpe. It has yet to show any sign of slipping.

I drive my car and stock s2000s where i work every day. I dont think its going to cause an abnormally stiff pedal. His issue might something else... Maybe a worn clutch guide or something?

I will admit that the ACT HD PP equipped S2000 that I drove was FRESHLY swapped in and therefore may have felt abnormally easy on the pedal because of the fresh grease on everything. I did drive an EVO with an ACT HD kit on it and the pedal was crazy stiff, but that doesn't mean much.

I do agree that of your pedal feels that much stiffer than an OEM clutch setup then maybe all your throwout bearing grease has dried up or you have a master/slave issue.

hey, that OTHER GUY is me! cool. anyways, i think youll be fine if you want to go with a stock clutch and stock pressure plate. and im sure your power levels will drop if you are tuned on 91 octane and im not swapping mine out till it starts to slip on a consistent basis

Just to update everyone, finally fixed the issue. While the ACT clutch is stiffer. It turned out that my clutch master cylinder was going out and there was little to no grease inside the clutch. Went to a proper shop and got things fixed. Buzz is all gone with the oem friction disk and while stiffer it's livable and even taught my girlfriend how to drive stick with it.

How the fk does my car with the sos stage 2 n1200 blower on a 3.4" pulley on 10-13 psi make the same power as your comptech at 9 psi... Some BS. Sorry lol not related to your thread, just had to post cause im frustrated with my results.
