i agree with SIIK2NR.

the supercharger does pull hard when the car revs up to higher rpm, especially when vtech engages. however it doesn't do much in low end, so if you're looking for the instant torque at low end like the twin screw or root type blower makes, then you'd be disappointed.

nevertheless, it is a very realiable power mod for daily driven cars. i highly recommend it if your wallet is thick enough.

at lower levels rpm you are not going to get much boost but the throttle response is instant just as if it were stock. The "boost" however you will not start to feel unless you floor it or build rpms.

You will not see peak boost 6-7lbs until redline. Hence the reason my boy is going turbo to gain midrange and lower end torque.

If you are anywhere near vtec or in vtec in any gear with the 04 and above......if you rev the throttle you will lunge. I can't speak for the AP1 but I'm sure it's the same.

I don't know if you've ridden in an SC AP2 but it's exactly like I'm describing. In fact I gave my boss a ride in it today. He's a Commander in the Navy and has always loved the S. He was probably the most impressed of the 5 or so people I've given a ride since my SC.

First Driving Impressions !!!!!

Sunday I finished the install, the last two things were the petrol pump and electronics. Both went reasonably well but you need a very flexible spine and neck to be able to get to the bits and pieces, I found mounting the "Timing controller" particullaly difficult. Anyway I finished late afternoon which gave me time for a short test drive.

WOW !!!!!

When the car hits "VTEC" it flies, I know in stock trim it feels fast but there really is no comparison. You have to shift really fast to avoid hitting the limiter, the time it takes from "VTEC" engagement to limiter seems extreemly short. Consequently the speed you put on is phenominal. I only got into fifth gear once pulling easily up through 200Kph. The pull from the engine in the "VTEC" zone is can only be described as hard and consistent right through to the limiter.
Under "VTEC" it's a different story. Up to 3000 RPM you wouldn't know the SC was there if it wasn"t for the whistling noise comming from it. From 3000 up to "VTEC" you do feel progressively more torque and power start to feed in, I suppose this is chacteristic of the boost curve of the SC.
Basically if you want to drive normally stay below "VTEC" if you want to go "WARP" speed just keep it in the zone (hard but possible). When I say "WARP" I mean it, the other cars on the road just seem to be comming back towards you, concentration is definately required.
It would be really nice to know the sprint times through the gears in "VTEC", as I suspect they are up there with some of the fastest cars on the road.
A friend of mine was with me, he normally drives a chipped Impreza Turbo (+/- 280 BHP) and he was pretty blown away by it.
That's about it for now, I hope to get the car on a "Dyno" this week so I should have some hard evidence of the real power and torque outputs. Also I'll do some more driving and try to give a more subjective view once the adrenaline levels return to normal.
All I can say for now is, all the cuts. bruises, aches and pains of the last couple of weeks are already forgotten, and I can't wait for a few good track days next summer.

Talk again soon

Kevin

I was just wondering about S/C'ing my s2000 and I was curious what you owners thought about it. I read the article several years back in motor trend about comptech's s2k but I was looking for more info. Fire away guys...come on, a free chance to brag about your car...!
Whopper! Aren't you in the Richmond area? If so, I could make the drive down there to see some friends and give you a ride. Bring a helmet!

Hmmm makes me want one, But Vortech or Comptech ? do they both use the same head unit ?

I hope the s/c lag isn't that bad, i'm not used to having lag with s/c's.

This explains everything

NA I/E vs Vortech stock w/exhaust

HP: 317PS = 312.66HP
TQ: 26.15kg.m = 189.14lb

Now look at the TQ line

So I take it no one has developed a roots type blower that would be ideal for our low torque s2000 yet. I think I asked this question a couple of years ago. WTF are they waiting for?

That's way better than words

Basically about the same max horsepower the stock car makes near redline at 6000 rpm! Then prepare for 3000 more rpms with a 100 more horsepower rush.. Whew.... fun stuff

If that isn't enough persuasion then I don't know what else can do it...

Little on the lean side though. Be careful.
