Default Supercharger Info Page

Hey,

I'm considering supercharging my S towards the end of the summer. I already know I'd want to go with Comptech but info from others is useful as well as it may help others out.

I was wondering if all you supercharged people out there could give some feedback about your supercharged experience, good and bad alike.

What do you like most about it, what problems have you had... stuff like that.
I'd also be curious about things such as how did it affect you gass milage, how much did you sell your S2K for with the supercharger (gain or loss in value) did it make it harder to sell...?
Basically anything you can think of that someone considering pulling the trigger on a blower should know.

Thanks

I went with the CT SC with the 9psi pulley, 650cc injector, header, exhaust and tuned with AEM EMS and got a max run of about 297 whp. I was not satisfied since I have heard other members claiming about that without all the extra stuff I added and with less boost. It did add about 115whp over my stock setup and it was still fast with a huge difference but for the amount of money I spent I was hoping for 330whp+ and I was not aware that a 9psi pulley only gets you 9 psi at around 8,500rpms+. So I only had that high boost for less than 500rpms. I sold the supercharger right away and my turbo setup should be done tonight or tomorrow, I hope I will be satisfied with my new setup at 9psi .

And I had my motor checked out and it is very healthy so I have no idea how other members are getting way more power with their SC setups but I will find out tonight weather my motor responds better to the turbo setup. If my #'s are low with the turbo then I will assume I might have a problem.

I think you'll like the supercharger. I know exactly what the previous guy is saying though. I went with the 9lb pulley and all the other fun stuff and barely got 300 (303 was my best run). It seemed like I spent way too much money on engine management, smaller pulley, injectors, lots on tuning, aftercooler, etc.... to get more than the 273 hp that I had with the stock supercharger. Thousands of dollars for 30 added hp!?

I didn't have any problems with any of the cars in my area when I was supercharged (stock supercharger that is). I've ridden in my friend's RX-7 through the years of its many upgrades and it felt a lot faster than mine, although I edged it out every time we raced. The supercharger gives you gradual boost, and to me, didn't really feel like my car was as fast as it was. It still lacks in torque.
You will enjoy it if you go that route. I've seen my01's and my02's sell for 28000 with a comptech kit installed on them. I don't think it really hurts the value. If you're going to want to push into 300+hp, I would go with the Vortech kit. I've seen some nice numbers on those. I've seen some nice numbers on the comptech too, but apparently the previous poster and myself are doing something wrong. I just went the turbo route to gain more power and torque. I still admit I thoroughly enjoyed the supercharger for the 2.5/3 years I had it. I just couldn't live with myself knowing I spent all that money and was basically at the end of the line for getting more hp out of the supercharger. You can only go so low on pulley sizes.

As far as gas mileage, I didn't really see a difference with the stock SC, but once I went with more boost, my gas mileage went straight to the dogs.

That was probably way too much writing, but I hope something in there will answer some of your questions. Good luck!
Dave

I have a stock pulley, stock boost and the only thing I changed were the plugs to IK24s.

No major problems. 285whp from 192 stock on Comptech's DynoDynamics Dyno.
Minor issues:
- a grinding sound around 3,000 rpm from inside the compressor that Comptech claims is normal. There was a thread about this a while back. I listened to 2 other Comptech SC'd cars and they both made the same sound.
- the hose from the airbox to the snail doesn't clear the fan shroud as cleanly as I would have liked. The shroud needs dremeling. Comptech has replaced this hose with a hard plastic one that has a larger flat spot. I upgraded to that. Still needed to wedge some foam in between the hose and fan shroud for peace of mind.

I really like the dual nature of the car. Below about 5,000 rpm it's tame, makes no boost to get excited about, a grocery-getter. Work the upper half of the rev range at it feels like a sportbike. Take your pick how you want to drive it on a given day.

Gas mileage? Not a daily driver for me, so when the gas get's low I put more in. Beyond that, I don't know.

Used car values are a big can of worms. I would expect the percentage of used S2000 shoppers looking for one with an SC already installed is pretty small. Depends on how long you're willing to wait around for a buyer, how many kids you're willing to let take your car for a joyride while you're selling it. The simplest move IMO is to demod the car back to bone stock, trade it in for whatever you are getting next and then slowly sell off your mods here and/or on ebay. The nice part is you can use the proceeds of your sales to buy stuff for whatever replaced the S

Thanks for the feedback thus far.

I'm really struggling between doing the SC thing or trading the S in for a C6 Vette.

The more I hear from either side the harder the decision is. Gonna go test drive the C6 tomorrow, maybe that will help me make up my mind.

Thanks again and keep it coming.

Funny you should say that because I went through a similar process between getting a C5 Z06 or going SC (not implying that the two have similar performance, just that I couldn't have BOTH).

not that it really means anything, but a buddy of mine picked one of those up about 2 weeks ago, loved the test drive and just had to get it. Two weeks later, he sold it. I keep asking him why and he won't give me anything more than, "I just didn't like it." If you heard him when he first got it, you wouldn't buy that response. I wish he'd elaborate more on it. I hate when people are like that.

Ahh well, good luck in whichever you choose.
I'm sure you'll like either.
