Default Symptoms of a failing alternator?

For past week my Gauges have been flickering like crazy at idle and idle gets rough now. As I watch AFR gauge it starts to fluctuate too much, but it does it only when flickering gets really bad. SO WEIRD.

I check it through OBD2 scan tool that keeps tabs on AIT, Water Temp, etc... and Voltage is one of the parameters I watch. Seems fine.

I wonder about this myself. My dash lights slightly flicker and wonder if its battery or alternator. When dash starts to flicker i get a bad idle.

I've been reading about this on the other sections and it could possibly be the rectifier inside of the alternator. A bad diode(?) in the rectifier would cause the flickering. I have no idea about the technical aspect of this, it's just what I have read and others have agreed on. I currently have a used alternator en route to me with low miles so that I can swap out the rectifiers. Brand new I believe it is about $160 from HandA parts.

Make sure all your major grounds are clean and tight.

When an alternator fails they usually just fail, your battery light comes on the dash and the car will just run off the battery, well, until it can't anymore and then you're stuck.

Actually, from what I have read the alternator would check out fine as it is still charging the battery. It's the rectifier that is failing and would cause the flickering. Let me see if I can find the posts I read.
