Ok so I hit the dyno in a coupel days to make sure that my newly isntalled comptech is working ok.


What should I be aiming for as far as AFR's are concerned?


12.0:1 at full wot after 6000? richers? leaner

 

I think you're fine where you're at. You're on the stock boost right?

 

12.0 is perfect. Youll probably see a few rich spots but as long as it stays around there in boost your good.

 

What kind of tuner do you have that wouldn't know this?

 

I'm hitting up davenport. I'm sure they would know this. But I just wanted to check with you guys so that I feel confident when I see teh afr's.

The kind that isn't worried about what number is in the first spot. As a tuner, I never aim for a target AF value. I set the car around 12.5:1 then richen it up until it starts to loose power. Say that is at 11.2:1 I'd then add just a bit of fuel to run at the richest condition without power loss. Why you might ask? There is a window on every car in which regardless of AF they will make or los only 1% power. On car 1 it might be 11:1 to 15:1 and on car 2 it might be 12:1 to 13:1. Inside that window the amount of fuel you use is drawn on one of two reasons. One fuel enconomy, two thermal control. Since I worry more about the engine going bam than how much money I spend at the pumps, I always go with number 2. The more fuel in the cylinder when ignition occurs means lower combustion temps. Hence less chances of detination.

So the moral is, doen't be worried about a number. If your tuner says that you are making the best reliable power at 12.5:1 then that's probably the truth. After all, you should trust the guy, and if you don't then why are you handing him the keys to your car?
