Thumbs down Test on different exhaust !

In the quest for better performance we all ask our selves what is the ideal exhaust to use.
Some say that the bigger the better while others prefer something called "back pressure"!
Either way, no one knows for sure what is ideal for their own unique setup until tests are made and data are collected. Because of this we tend to base our decisions from other people's opinion and follow what they say works best.
I too went with the flow of the current (bigger better) and fell in to abyss

I wanted to step out and try different exhaust diameters to determine if the popular 3 inch exhaust gave the best power. My goal was to have an educated answer when it came to small talk in local meets.

My test is as follows:

-Three different exhaust , all being of different exhaust diameters 63mm 70mm and 3inch.

-The car needed the same modifications, except the exhaust.

-I wish the weather would be the same but it was not. Either way it would not make a difference

-same dyno

-same gas 91

-same tuner - Bisi

-cant have a control in this experiment because 197 whp stock is BS !!!

My engine mods:

comtech s/c
Rc 750cc
Skunk 70 mm TB (not bored to match the intake ) I know !!!!
**********REAL MEGAN EXHAUST 4-2-1 ***********
spearco front mount + Comptech aftercooler
Sideways tips on improving the cooling
Bisi as the tuner

Results:

With no new mods I started testing different exhausts !

-First exhaust tested
j's FX70rr full titanium (header back) exhaust I only made 370 whp and 227 wtq
The temperature that day was 68 F outside

-Second exhaust
Megan 3 inch with Asura (non baffled) 3inch test pipe.
I gained some hp and tq. 393 whp and 336 wtq
Temperature outside was about 86 F (hot day)

Here is the dyno to prove my numbers
red is FX70 RR
green is 3inch

The last test was between
Megan 3inch w/ test pipe. vs
Tanabe Medalion dual having 63mm main pipe with oem looking canister, splitting into dual 50mm with medium size canisters.
Again the tuner was Bisi.
Day was mid 80's F

red is tanabe
green is 3 inch
dyno to prove the numbers

Conclusion:
To my surprise with a smaller exhaust the car gained and gave 405 whp with 240 wtq.
But the best part was mid-range power being incredible for both hp and torque !
And contrary to popular belief I even gained hp and tq on top !

After spending over $3500 on exhaust and tunes I hope these data results will shed more light in understanding the incredible power plant we all drive, The Honda s2000

Special thanks:
My wallet, fiancee Chen aka poopy, Ramon, JohnZ, Jirro22 and Bisi @ Bisimoto engineering .

nice mid range gain! Bisimoto FTW again. I hope to see similar results since changing to the 2.5" at the split! for OEM looking exhausts!

Well supercharging and turbocharging are a bit different. For S/C it seems that what you tested is true. However for turbocharging, your exhaust is flowing right into the turbo. The exhaust after the fact only affects spool/noise. The larger the piping, generally the better. Altho for S/C what you say makes sense to me.

but a 70mm single would be better than stock for a supercharger right?

Especially surprised given stock NA cars pick up power going 63-->70!

Based on my results I would say NO !
I think that the stock exhaust would show even better torque band due to the engine wanting a lower vtech point.
My exhaust is very close to oem the difference being in 3mm difference of diameter.
