Sorry to bump a 5 year old thread, but has there been any clarification in the past 5 years as to which diameter exhaust piping made the most power on a high hp SC setup?

i made 490whp/304wtq with 70mm test pipe and Greddy 70mm ti-c.

i am looking to eek out another 10whp or so to get to 500+whp and am curious if going to 3 inch header back or a 63mm single will get me there.

any input is appreciated!

Hmm, i dont think anyone will be able to tell you for sure if you'll gain power going up to a 3" system. Your setup now should be pretty free flowing. I'm on a full 3" straight pipe no resonator setup running 515whp turbo but one major complaint i have about my setup is the terrible resonance at around 3500rpm. It's so bad it makes any loose change in my car rattle like crazy. I can feel the vibration through the seat, steering wheel...not real sure how to address it. Could be the solid rubber motor mounts....could be that i dont have any resonators....could be unequal manifold runner lengths....i donno.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that if your setup sounds good and doesn't have any issues with vibration leave it the way it is. You might run into other issues trying to chase that 10whp.

I'm turbo at 508 with a invidia q300 catback. I also have a 3" exhaust cutout at the end of a 3" downpipe. When I was having it tuned there was no power to be gained by opening the cutout. The only thing it did was get the turbo to spool 500rpm sooner.

yes with turbo, I believe the consensus has been 3in or larger if possible.

with SC it is a different animal in that exhaust gas velocity directly impacts the flow from the engine and therefore the amount of boost made. I wish us SC guys had it as easy as the turbo guys when it comes to exhausts, but unfortunately this isn’t the case!

im going to roll with 3in and see what happens.
