More restrictive down the pipeline a bit speeds up the exhaust, creating a bit of a scavenging effect on piping leading up to it (that is not moving as quickly). It would work great if there is no major turbulence in the exhaust path to create back pressure... at least it makes sense to me that it would work as long as you were not building positive pressure due to the reduction in piping size (that is you are not moving more air than the 3" exhaust can handle... anything under 600hp, and even more now that Mase has started with his stock compression beasts! That thing I think is running an open 2.5" DP).

from what i've read, scavenging is useless on a turbo car. The exhaust pulses from each cylinder counts more for you preturbo with the type of manifold you buy (tubular, equal lenght). You just want the least amount of back pressure post turbo as possible!
