Default Thinking of going FI

As the title states, I want TQ that is usable throughout the power band and mainly down low as IMHO this is where the S2K lacks. So I have narrowed it to the following base on cost and ease of install with minimal tuning:

Greddy Turbo Kit
Kraftwerks SC Kit

I am not looking to upgrade later for more HP (at least I don't think so). Cost is my main objective, hence lookng for used on both.

Let me know if anyone thinks I might have other options or if I am on the right track.

My opinions:

Turbosetup with no real tuning = nothanks
Kraftwerks, proven to be a good setup and has an appealing power curve.

if those are your only 2 options, first what are your $$ limits?? cuz both the greddy and KW will cost 6k each LOL.

-Engine management and tune for the Greddy

-kw just happens to cost 6k just to get one.

need clutch...

The greddy would be much more efficient for that lower end torque but you will be sacrificing ALL your top end (which the car was designed and created for the power to be made there)

The KW will give you more lower end torque NO PROBLEM and will substain more power as you keep going up.

idk man.. do it right the first time. FI is expensive if you happen to change your mind later for more power :-D IT Happens like 90% of the time

If you want torque and a SC look at the SOT kit.

I swear everytime someone mentions the Greddy you have something horrible to say. That statement doesn't make any since. How could you lose top end power??? The little Greddy turbo does give great down low torque and not so good top end power gains, but most people are still getting 80-100 more whp than stock at redline. I don't see that as losing "ALL" your top end power. If you would have read his original post he wants something that has good torque, easy to install, minimal tuning. Sounds like Greddy. He can't even get a Kraftwerks SC because he has an AP1. I was going to go KW, but that magical AP1/AP2v1 kit that was supposed to come out 8 months ago, still hasn't come out. I don't know why that is taking forever. Also, he said that he was looking for either kit used. I have said it a lot on this site, but I got my Greddy kit without the fuel pump for $2100. That's why I got it. I was going to go Comptech or Vortech SC, but now i'm glad I went Greddy instead.

OK, enough complaining to DeadZero.

If you were to go SC, i would look at the Science of Speed kit, but you won't find any of those used yet. You could still do Kraftwerks, but you have to use their You Tune kit and supply your own engine management system and fuel management and then tune it. Not what you are looking for.

For price and ease of install, do what I did, search for used aftercooled Comptech or Vortech SC's or used Greddy turbos.

But your only cheap option that meets your criteria is the Greddy. Just know that you can't up the boost past 10 psi and you will top out around the 300 whp and 200-220 wheel torque. But, I have heard that Greddy's 20G turbo that will soon be offered in a Tuner turbo kit, will bolt to the existing Greddy manifold. That may give Greddy guys the opportunity to up power without having to strip everything out and starting over.

Good luck, FI is a blast, even with a "crappy" Greddy kit!

this will turn into a flame war shortly so just a couple of facts...

the greddy will give you power from about 3000 on but tops out around 330whp.

the KW will not give you down low power, no centrifugal blower will/can. they will give you nice peak numbers but unless you drive around in VTEC all day the gains are minimal down low.

the SOT kit is the only kit that can add power everywhere from idle to redline. we'll see how much we get out of camuman's but we're at 350whp @ 8psi on a dynojet, more to come

personally I'm getting Mase's kit, full boost at around 5000 rpm, more power than stock starting around 4000 rpm. that's what you'll be able to expect from a good tubular manifold kit. under 400whp though you can't beat the SOT kit. above 400whp and you'll need a good tubular manifold turbo kit.

I really am thinking for the cost that the Greddy kit is my first choice. I am not familiar with the SOT SC kit, but will do some research. I do think I can have a Greddy kit all said and done for less than 3k no problem.
