oh yeah, don't plan on saving money in the tuning, you'll just be replacing a blown motor down the road or complaining how you have X on X amount of boost only making X.

Ive had a comptech SC and currently have a greddy turbo. I'm going to be selling it since I just bought an Inline pro kit for more power (400 or so).

IMO I would try and find a greddy kit and you can find them used for around 3K now. It has great driveability and the power down low as well as turbo spool is pretty awesome. You have full boost pretty much at any RPM and in any gear.. Its a great street kit.

If you want to relocate somethings in your engine bay, SOT. If you want a great kit with great power, KW.

Let me know if anyone thinks I might have other options or if I am on the right track.
find and buy a used centrifugal s/c .
centrifugal because it matches perfectly to the character of our engine
better if you find a package that consists of an aem .
no relocations , fast and easy installation

tune it with aem and 10psi the most.
no cluch needed .
it will bring you a big smile even with no low end torque
have fun with it and then sell it and get your money back.

happy end

I swear everytime someone mentions the Greddy you have something horrible to say. That statement doesn't make any since. How could you lose top end power??? The little Greddy turbo does give great down low torque and not so good top end power gains, but most people are still getting 80-100 more whp than stock at redline. I don't see that as losing "ALL" your top end power. If you would have read his original post he wants something that has good torque, easy to install, minimal tuning. Sounds like Greddy. He can't even get a Kraftwerks SC because he has an AP1. I was going to go KW, but that magical AP1/AP2v1 kit that was supposed to come out 8 months ago, still hasn't come out. I don't know why that is taking forever. Also, he said that he was looking for either kit used. I have said it a lot on this site, but I got my Greddy kit without the fuel pump for $2100. That's why I got it. I was going to go Comptech or Vortech SC, but now i'm glad I went Greddy instead.

OK, enough complaining to DeadZero.

If you were to go SC, i would look at the Science of Speed kit, but you won't find any of those used yet. You could still do Kraftwerks, but you have to use their You Tune kit and supply your own engine management system and fuel management and then tune it. Not what you are looking for.

For price and ease of install, do what I did, search for used aftercooled Comptech or Vortech SC's or used Greddy turbos.

But your only cheap option that meets your criteria is the Greddy. Just know that you can't up the boost past 10 psi and you will top out around the 300 whp and 200-220 wheel torque. But, I have heard that Greddy's 20G turbo that will soon be offered in a Tuner turbo kit, will bolt to the existing Greddy manifold. That may give Greddy guys the opportunity to up power without having to strip everything out and starting over.

Good luck, FI is a blast, even with a "crappy" Greddy kit!
no dude you miss understand and i'm not dissing the greddy, just going from the truth. HE WANTS TORQUE!! the greddy makes that mountain of torque early but then loses MOST of it after 6k-redline. i don't care about the hp gains of the greddy, this post is all about the torque in the low end and the greddy gladly gives him that, but at a cost of losing most of it in the high power band.

but you can complain to me more if you want :-D i don't care, i'm still gonna have my say in things regardless of what you say to me or my posts

Yes, I am leaning toward TQ numbers down low over Numbers higher in the rpm range. I think this would compliment what the s2k already has. I think it would be great to get off the line well with the torque and then have decent power up to 9k.

Why does it take until 5,500 rpm until the plots of stock to boosted to cross? This kit would be what I would want if that is the case and it sounds much more costly than Greddy. I am leaning toward Greddy more and more.

^ That is a great SC kit, but it still is a SC kit. It will take longer to get the torque benifits from them than a small turbo that can spool quickly. You get full spool by around 3000-3300 in the 18G Greddy. The SOT SC will pull away after it gets to the upper RPMs though. Same thing with the Kraftwerks, but again, you can't buy a complete KW kit for your car.

DeadZero, sorry for blowing up. Greddy seems to take it on the chin in this forum and I just think it has its nitch which exactly where paulzale wants to be. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Just out of curiousity, are you FI? I'm sure you are I just don't know what kit you have. Take care!

Good luck paulzale!

PS, I don't track my car, so lower RPM is more important to me, thanks all.
