Ti valve spring retainers
my question is then i just had my OEM valves replaced in cylinder 1 and 2 in feb. and my CEL came on recently and its saying misfire on cyl 1. i brought it to honda and they want to take the head off to "see" if their is any damage but they gonna charge me 1700$ jus to check and see. the thing is i know i havent been driving incorrect or misshifted like i did b4 so why do u think would cause that? do u think its a maintence error?

sloppy guides, broken retainers, etc etc. I'm thinking your valves didn't hit the piston if they only had to replace the valves. You need to give a bit more details on what happened before and what exactly got replaced.
here is what the details of repair sheet said from honda: remove and reinstall cylinder head, replace 2 valves, replace cat. converter and gasket.
then here is what the like parts order form said: cyl head gasket kit, cotter, valve , valve spring retainer ex-valve guide in-valve ex-valve cam chain tensioner. im just reading what the paper said all in all the total was 2800$

I had read or been told they will generally last about 20k, but to check them at 10k and periodically after that. I've only had such a setup for about 2k miles. Redline was set to 9800 rpm.
Kane, I'm curious as to how high up the rpm range you believe the stock cams can make power. I'm having a stroker motor replace my sc'er setup.

I'll throw my two cents into this again, as the reliability of Ti retainers have been discussed on numerous occasions on this forum. I keep on hearing it said that Ti retainers only last 10K-15K miles before replacement. I say BS. Show me the proof. This may have been the case when they first started showing up on the aftermarket scene, but significant improvements have been made in Ti alloy technology and manufacturing techniques in recent years. I believe there are a number of Porsche engines that use Ti retainers and I doubt they are being changed every 10,000 miles.
As I said, there's been no concrete proof and I believe it's more on a user basis but you should check on them beginning the 10k-15k mark. I have seen Ti retainers gall and nearly failed after very few miles so it goes both ways.
A stroker would be completely different on the effects with the factory cams. There's been plenty of people making flat torque upto 9500rpm. However a few users have found the cams to peak off at about 650whp.

My previous set of retainers I used them for about 18K and there was no sign of splitting, cracking, bowing, etc. Just normal minimal galling but not abnormal
Supertech told me they expect the retainers to last for 25K miles. They will last longer if the fit between the springs and the retainers is good, not so long if the fit between the springs and retainers is not good. They recommend their own springs for best fit. They recommend removing the retainers for inspection rather than trying to inspect them visually from the top.
To get the dual spring setup I would need to order a dual spring kit plus a set of "dual spring seat locators"? Anything else?
Should the little clips that hold the valve to the retainer be replaced? Do they come in the kit?
