Thumbs up Tracking Car in Spring...

Hey Guys,

I am looking to do some tracking this coming spring. I would like to do some track days, nothing big at the beginning due to my lack of skill, but longer runs than an average AutoX, but not a 40 minute run etc...

Skill aside, I am looking to get my car reliable for 5-10 minute WOT type driving. I am not looking to be that much faster than other S2K's, at least on the straight-aways!

I was thinking of throwing in my smaller pound spring and running 4-6 pounds? Reliability is key here, and i guess i was wondering if there were any track gurus out there that had raced or helped run a turbo car!

I have a 3mm headgasket, so 4-6 pounds should be around 200-240whp. I know when i raced a AP2, i was slowly pulling on one at 4 pounds.

Again, i am looking for reliability, so i was thinking of oil temp, pressure guages, I already have a Serial gauge for air temp and coolant etc...

Thanks!

I think 6psi is more around 300rwhp, surely not 200rwhp.

Either way, yes lower the boost a little bit so your engine isn't feeling the full brunt of the turbo the whole time.

Also you might want to consider a larger radiator / oil cooler as thats the real problem with tracking a turbo'd car.

Invest in a oil pressure gauge and egt gauge, I agree with spec ops an oil cooler will help out quite a bit.

Agreed on both of the above. You might also talk with a reputable tuner. You might want to richen your fuel mixture up just a bit to keep the inner temps cooler. The longer you run the more things heat up and heat is the enemy.

Also maybe mix in some race gas to help things out ..

spec.. i am running a 3mm headgasket, so i doubt my car is making 300whp at 4-6 psi. At least with my setup that is!

So i will look into an oil cooler, oil pressure and oil temp gauges!

Getting some 100 octane to mix in might be a good idea as well! Ill send a message over to my tuner to see about richening up the mixture as well.

yeah but I highly doubt a headgasket drops horsepower by 100 that'd be pretty crazy!

i was interested in trackin my car some as well i also have 3mm HG installed but if i keep my boost at 12-13psi would that be too high? even with a richer more conservative tune? i know about the upgrading radiator will stock fans suffice and for the oil cooler any DIYs around how to install it?

as long as the tune is good psi should be fine as far as the engine goes.

Stock fans don't fit with aftermarket radiators last I checked so you'll need new fans I think. Most oil coolers are passive so no fans needed, just speed!

fully engine build lolzz, and change ur turbo to gt30r BB so that way u gonna have better mid range and the power kicks in much more earlier then gt35r.
then u don't really have to worring about exiting the cornering.
