I don't think you would have to go as far as to relocate the fuse box. Put some of that alumnium heat foil on it and see how that holds up. Mine has been taking the heat fine with it.

Also remember to put heat foil around the brake line that runs right past the manifold, don't want that to fail mid-race

Sorry to revive an old thread..

Did you end up going with this setup, Js S2k? Which oil cooler did you use?

What were your results on the track? Any oil pressure issues as a result of the cooler?

Thanks for the info.

Bummer

Via pm, Js said he never got the turbo. I was really hoping to get some experiences of people who have tracked the greddy turbo kits.

Well, since you brought it back from the dead, I'll throw my .02 in.

I did have the greddy kit and did take it to a road course. I also had the following cooling mods:
Upgraded aluminum radiator with additional fan, greddy oil cooler, vented hood, ceramic coated turbo manifold, radiator diversion panel.

I also had a higher pressure radiator cap on there for a bit but my mechanic suggested not to do this as it increases the chances of blowing your head gasket (according to him). I don't know how true this is, but I ended up going back to a stock pressure cap.

After 2-3 laps on track, I saw oil temps hit 260F. I'd back off and cruise for a lap, temps would fall back to 230ish, hit it again for a lap and be right back at 260+. I don't know how high it would have gone, I always let off when the temps got up that high. I don't recall what my water temps were, but I don't think there were excessive. Ambient temp was probably 75F.

I won't say this would be the case for everyone, just what I experienced. I ended up selling the kit, largely for this reason, and am about to finish up a S/C install instead.

Thanks for your input. Seems like the greddy oil cooler wasn't cutting it at all. Where did you have it mounted?

SC's seem like the easier way to go for a car that sees track use, but I really love turbos.

Leon, what hp numbers were you putting down?

That's a lot of additional cooling modifications to fall short with a mild turbo set up such as the Greddy.

Well consider that the greddy's turbo is oil cooled, and also almost at the limit of its capabilities right out of the box. It's a difficult turbo to keep cool. I think a bigger oil cooler than the greddy model is needed, and maybe also some good ducting or a fan on the cooler.

I've been searching around quite a bit, and haven't found anybody who's gotten good oil temps from a greddy turbo kit during track use (even when using oil coolers). That doesn't mean it's not possible though.

Does anyone else have any track experience with the greddy kit?

go to https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showforum=11 and search for TURBO. i think one person has made it work. ONE PERSON. its not that it cant be done, its that it is hard to do on this car.

oil temps get rediculous, then car starts to overheat. this doesnt mean turbos suck, it means for that application, its easier to suceed with a supercharger.

good luck
