Default Turbo Dumping in An S2000

Coming from the world of the H22 in the 5th gen prelude, i know turbo-dumping, though illegal is the way to go for performance.

"...vent the wastegate exhaust to the atmosphere rather than back into the exhaust tract rather than getting a wastegate."

I know H22 people on low boost (<10psi) applications were getting 20-25 more to the WHEELS. never boosted my lude though.

anyways im gonna be getting an s2000 in a few weeks, and im going to want to boost it, probably around 8.5-9.5 psi. i know this might be a stupid question (researched for hours on boosting but i still dont know a lot) but would there be any problems turbo dumping? im probably going to piece a kit together that will include a basic t3/t4 turbonetics turbo.
thoughts and suggestions?

Learn to drive the car in stock form before doing anything to it .

As for the atmospheric waste gate dump, it's not legal anywhere, but certain local legislations aren't strict enough to notice.

For nature's sake, route it through a high flow cat. You won't miss a few ponies here or there.

I'm a fan of open wastegates. For the extra power, and the sound.

Myself, along with many others have atmospheric dump wastegates. Unless in a strict area (such as CA) I wouldn't worry about it.

If routed back in properly there shouldn't be more than a few horse power loss.....We're talking single digits......

Almost every turbo kit made for the S2000 has a dump-tube which vents to atmosphere. It is only usually open request that the dump-tube will recirculate. Based on my past experience (venting to atmosphere vs. recirculating on an inlinePRO kit), there was a difference of almost 50rwhp. My situation may be rare, but it happened and was proven on the dyno.

i know but i cant help it. im sure there will be some time between getting the car and then boostin, but hopefully as short as possible

yeah i was planning on it. speaking of which, ive heard good things about Spoon High flows, but cant seem to find them online to buy anywhere - ideas?

ok thats good to know though almost all h22 prelude kits did not dump to the atmosphere. im guessing though the greddy kit (though id probably never get it) does NOT dump it into the world because its CARB legal?

yeah, I'm pretty sure the greddy would have to route it through the exhaust in order to be CARB legal (as would any kit). You're supposed to not have any exhaust gas going into the atmosphere without having run it through a catalytic converter first.

That said, mine vents to atmosphere simply because the kit came with a dump tube. I would have to pay somebody to fab something up for me if I wanted to route it through the exhaust, and that's money better spent elsewhere.

so say a kit i was looking at includes a wastegate - that means its gonna send it back to the exhaust? and what all would be needed to be done (and costs) to make it dump?
