Default turbo guys in CA

How do you guys pass smog check? The only turbo kit that is CARB legal is the Greddy. Only con is that the Greddy kit doesn't make the power I'm looking for. Any feedback will be appreciated

Put it back to stock, drive it that way for a few days then smog. It's a good time to detail the engine, look for leaks, rebuild turbo, do upgrades.

With the new smog check Star program these "friends" are no longer able to circumvent the system.

This.

It's not as easy as "knowing people". "Knowing people" also doesn't do you any good when you get pulled over, popped, then sent to the smog referee.

You either have to go into it knowing that you WILL have to pull it out for smog, or go with one of the TWO carb legal FI kits out there (Greddy Turbo and CT-Engineering SC).

And of course the caveats are that the Greddy kit sucks and the CTSC is difficult to source at a good price for the DBW models (the OP has an MY07...as do I).

This is the reason I went Nitrous. Easy to conceal. Easy to Pull out. (and I get to purge )

Yes, California Sucks.

EDIT: I forgot to mention...there are a few counties in CA that do not require smog. If you live in or can manage to get your car registered in one of these counties, then you'll never have to smog. If you live in said counties, you're golden. If you don't...you basically have to find a way to establish a home address in that county with your name on it. If you can deal with the hassle and the potential consequences of getting busted, then that's an option.

EDIT #2: Here's a list of counties in California that do not require smog per DMV website:

Alpine
Amador
Calaveras
Del Norte
Humboldt
Imperial
Inyo
Lake
Lassen
Mariposa
Mendocino
Modoc
Mono
Plumas
Sierra
Siskiyou
Trinity
Tuolumne

These counties require smog check only in certain zip codes.

El Dorado
Placer
Riverside
San Bernardino
San Diego (I believe Julian is one...not sure if there are more)
Sonoma
