So what if your turbo has an internal waste gate? Can you use that port to tap a by bass valve back into the exhaust?

^ as such your wastegate IS a by-pass valve that opens to vent excess exhaust gas (either back in to the exhaust or to atmosphere) when you reach a given level of boost. If you just route that pipe back into the exhaust you'd lose all the flow that is meant to spool up your turbo. Ideally youd want to do away with it altogether if you have an internal wastegate.

i want to throw a little muffler on my dump tube and see if it sounds any different

Vent to atmosphere is much better for higher boost setups because it prevents as much boost creep!

^^Prob not a good idea, with the full race mani not having optimal placement for the wastegate, muffler might cause minor boost creep

I've seen someone do it. I think they used a streetbike muffler.
