Default Turbo size for the S?

I am wondering what size and at that what turbo to get for the S. If there is no "perfect" size than here is what I am looking for.

Some that is great for everyday but will yeild decent (nothing astronomical) power gains. I want it to spool fairly easy, but not so easy I hit boost everytime I pull out from a light or stop sign.

There is no perfect turbo. It all depends on HP goals and drivabilty wants. If you are looking for great spool up go with a GT28, but know that you will be very limited on the power you can put down. GT30 seems to be a good blend between spool time and power, while the GT35 is for the guys wanting mad power and really aren't concerned with the extra spool time.

I went with the GT31R. It's the largest turbo that can be installed without cutting into the frame with the InlinePRO kit. I can't speak to how it performs because it won't be installed and tuned for another two weeks

I'm told it's good for up to 600hp (which I'm not after anyway) and should spool up quickly.

As soon as it's installed and tuned, I will be posting pics, dyno results and driving impressions.

Contrary to what some people say I don't think the spool up time for the GT35R is that bad at all. I actually like the way the car is with it.

Under ~4k rpm I can drive the car around town with no problem at all. The turbo isn't spooled up and I don't have to worry about unwanted attention from anyone. Above 4k it starts to spool and I'm at full boost somewhere around 4.5-5k rpm. I actually really like this dual personality/feel of the car.

This sounds like an awful question. But is there a more affordable turbo I might consider? I am looking to buy a house right now and a 1k turbo definitely won't fit my budget.

Uhh I don't know your situation so please don't mind me saying anything... but if youre taking such a large financial step like getting a house, then getting a turbo for your car might not be the best thing for you, especially if you're worried about trying to cut down the cost of the turbo kit.

You might end up with problems with your car... and to be honest, you will probably have to deal with expenses on the car that you never even factored. I'm only talking from experience. Just want you to consider everything before making your move.

I can only speak from experience, and I have a GT3071R and I really like this set up because it doesn't spool so quickly that i'm boosting everytime I press the gas, but is spools quick enough that turbo lag is almost non-existant. Another plus is that you can put down a decent amount of power with it if you ever decide to up the power in the future.

I would say that you should be spooled up at 4,500 rpm. Almost everyone that I have heard about with a GT35R says it spools up right at 4,500 rpm...
