Default Turbo Smoking up at WOT

Hey guys,

I'm having an issue with my Precision BB Water cooled turbo leaking at WOT on a Log manifold. I originally was told it was probably the oil drain location on the oil pan which I changed to the front of the pan(Where inline pro recommends). Once I did this, it seemed to help but now its back after a 1k miles. I'm going to try to adjust the hose a bit to see if that can help. I'm also looking to get a 10an extender since the hose is extremely close to the pulley.

Now from what i read, this turbo comes with a restrictor from factory. I was going to check to see if my setup had another restrictor ontop of that but it seems to be inpossible to get to the turbo inlet oil feed without having to take off the manifold. Does anyone know a easy way to check to see or add a restrictor to the turob?
Also would it help if I would put a restrictor from the oil feed line from the oil relocation kit?

Finally, it seems weird and not sure if its related, but I just added some oil when I noticed the level was about 1/4 inch ontop of the Low level on the dip stick and the smoking seem to have come back. Again not sure if its related but can me keeping the oil level at High or right above high make a difference? My oil pressure gauge remains the same.

If nothing works, I guess I will have to remove the my manifold and send the turbo off to get rebuilt unless I go another route and get a garrett since it seems precision is known to leak.

Thanks for any help or advice.

If there is a restrictor, you will see it between the oil feed line and the oil inlet port on the CHRA. Sounds like oil is be forced past the control rings (what some might call 'seals') in the turbo, which will cause smoking.

If your oil return is tapped too low on the oil pan it may cause the oil to not drain properly, get backed up and cause the turbo to smoke.

You can consider tapping the girdle to be absolutely sure it will not get backed up.

Thanks for your post. I tried to look but with the log manifold in the way, I can't really tell. Do I need to remove the manifold to properly check this?

If I do , would it make any difference to add a restrictor to the oil filter reolocation kit where the turbo receives oil? That spot seems much easier to work with.

In regards to the oil pan, before it was above the drain plug and even when I removed the hose for the turbo drain, oil leaked. That's when I decided to tap the front of the oil pan. There with the drain hose removed, I dont see any oil leak. My only problem with this location is that the pulley is right next to it and it doesnt allow me to angle the hose fitting vertically. I just ordered an extender hose fitting which should resolve that problem.

I had to add another 0.030 restrictor to my oil feed line going to my old PT 5857 to stop it smoking when I had the Mase kit. These turbos do tend to smoke more than others.

This is what I was going to get to install in the oil recolation side. Its a 3an and the size is a .035. Would this be the correct piece to add to the 1/8th opening of the oil relocatin kit? Link Below

I can go smaller if needed but couldn't find it on ebay.

Being I've had a Precision turbo water-cooled and a log manifold and had it for a while......

Are you sure it's smoking any more than just a rich WOT normal operation? I mean, I it's expected to see Grey/black smoke at WOT without a catalytic converter. Are you seeing blue smoke (oil) then?
