I believe that fperra has one that he custom made.

I have been thinking of making one myself but you have to remember there is not a lot of room with my LoveFab GT1 setup along with the Koyo radiator.

The slight improvement in intake temp you could achieve by a CAI pales in comparison to the large increase in temp generated by the compression stage. The idea is to cool the charge AFTER it has been compressed. For this, you use a heat exchanger (wether air:air or air:water). If done efficiently enough, the air entering the manifold will be very close to the ambient temp at the front of the car (where the IC or AC radiator is usually placed).

I think its because the gains are slim to none with a CAI since you are compressing that air anyway, combined with the fact that your IC piping is taking up all of the room behind both headlights so there isn't much space for a CAI. Atleast with my kit (GT1) there isn't.

So are you saying that the Comptech and Vortec SC CAIs are mostly for show?
Maybe to a small extent. They are what they are because that just happens to be where and how the blower sits and where the aftercooler is located. Putting the filter inside a box and having the box next to the hole in the fender wall just tidies things up. I think they would perform just as well if the filter was just hanging off the blower intake and exposed.
The hottest the underhood air gets is about 70*C. Once compressed, the air gets much hotter than this. By the time it gets through the cooler and into the intake manifold, the IAT is seeing it at around 50*C during normal city driving. At speed, the cooler works much better and intake temps come down dramatically.

CAI can make a HUGE difference on a turbo car. I've had both an air filter in the engine bay and in the fender well on my Monte and the difference was astounding. On the S2000, I've resigned myself to placing it next to the fender opening and off the the side of the radiator. If I have lots of free time, I might build a box for it some day.

What if you just took the box lid off your Vortec kit viper? This experiment would only be informative in one direction, that is if you DO see a difference in IAT. If you don't see a difference then someone could still argue that just removing the lid isn't enough to make a difference.

Also, since you do have a IAT sensor, did you ever try that larger AC radiator to see if there is an objective difference. (I'm blanking on which sponsor sells it ATM).
