USED TURBO S2K
lol yeah normally if the owner knows the engine well then i would feel better buying it, but this guy is a dumbass and doesnt know a damn thing about tuning. probably rich and doesnt get his hands dirty when it comes to car. but the deal is really good so i'll get it checked out. how can you tell if the car is tuned or not. i guess i'll dyno it and see the A/F reading also the WHP it puts down.
The Greddy kit comes with a map that is supposed to be safe to be driven on. That's how it is CARB legal in California. I believe California owners are not supposed to tune the kit, or they'll violate the street legal status of the kit. There are probably dozens of owners in Cali who have years of experience driving on the original Greddy map.
But... The rest of us know better than to trust a generic tune. I had a Greddy kit on my car for 8 months, using the base tune. The tops of my pistons are now pitted and we found small metal shavings inside the cylinders. After the compression test, have your mechanic stick a lighted scope down into the engine to check out the pistons. Most good shops should be able to do this.

^ thanks alot for the useful information. i will have the shop do that just to make sure everything is working right. i did research on the kit and i think Greddy put a fairly safe map in there or else people would sue them for broken engines. im sure its not a very good tune but it shouldn't be that bad where engine would damaged in year with a kit on. would that make sense everybody?
It would make sense, but chances are that the A/F ratio isn't optimal.
Either it's too rich leading to fuel wash (bad for cylinder walls) or too lean and probably has some preignition damage.
There's a fine line between those two, and if that car is modified in any other way, it's probably not on that line. If you get it, have it compression tested...period.
Also, if it's a Greddy kit, it's not going to have much room to upgrade. You'll basically have to replace almost the whole kit if you want more than the power it's delivering now.

oh i just need around 300whp for daily driving. i know its not big HP kit but enough for me to get around. i own and evo8 now and its plenty quick, but im just sick of it. i need something different and i've never own a roadster before. so this will be my first roadster and i want to make sure everything is ok before i buy it. i called LHT Performance and they said they'll do a thorough check for a good price so im sure they'll tell me if something is not right. btw, S2KI experts are very helpful and quick to respond!. awesomeness.
I wouldn't buy it. If it's a good deal, it's probably too good to be true - you'll probably end up spending a lot down the road to fix whatever this 'dumbass' has neglected/broken.
Just build your own, WAY less potential trouble/heartbreak/less wasted money and time.

well he said the car is boosted less than a year. its an 04 with like 20K miles on it. yeah i would definitely have LHT Performance check it out. they're top rated shop and been on a cover of turbo magazines many times so im sure they can tell me the condition of the car. i know buying a used turbo car is dangerous but im also being very careful about it. if i find anything wrong, deal is off.
By the looks of your post, it doesn't seem like you have much experience at all. I would not recommend building the car yourself unless you're prepared to spend a lot of money and a ton of time learning and building it yourself. There is a lot of trial and error in the process which could be time consuming and expensive. Although this is the best way to own a modified car because you can fix it yourself and you know the full history of the car.
A motor doesn't blow from one day to the next. A compression and leak down test as well as an experience mechanic could give you a good indication of the condition of the motor. Take the car to LHT Performance, have them look it and give you their suggestion on what is needed if anything at all.
Use their advice to negotiate pricing if it's worth it!

^ yes im still learning about the s2000 (i think we all are). i've done many research and drove it before, but they're NA not boosted. and i believe that the Greddy kit is probably the least dangerous kit out there for the s2000. i haven't seen the car in person yet, cuz the owner is still on vacation and he'll be back this week. of course i wouldn't be buying the car without professional opinions first and LHT Performance would do a full inspections as well as a compression and leak down test. hopefully the car pass with flying colors!
does anyone know the reliability of a boosted s2k compare to an EVO?
