Smile Vortech airbox sucks!

I installed my vortech SC this weekend for the most part it all went fine except for that stupid mini airbox which did not fit. I was forced to cut out a lot of the bottom and up the rear in order for it to clear the air conditioner lines located there.
Now it is in there and the filter is pressing on those lines and I figure it will eventually wear a hole in the filter... plus the filter in tiny and not really something I want to keep.

Has anyone else had this issue? Have any of you fabbed up something a little more acceptable?
The comptech has a much better design but it extends too far back and would hit the Vortech SC mounting assembly (from what I can tell by looking at pictures)

Other than that I am pleased so far... We shall see what happens after it is broken in a bit.

I think others have been able to use the comptech icebox with some modding with the vortech supercharger.

that would be great!

Anyone have any pictures of a setup like that?
(I've been searching the forums about this with no luck)

I'm the only one with a Comptech box. The Vortech does leave much to be desired. I'm using a larger KN 1023 filter, with a Drycharger filter wrap.

Since you modified the box it is probably to late to do it the way Vortech designed it. The aluminum tube is just pushed down and the airbox will hold it down.

It's working fine for me.

My stock Vortech air box went in tight but went in. I had it on for about a year before I took it out to clean the filter. Then I decided not to put it back because it was so small and grafted my old JR filter onto the flex pipe and made myself an umbrella/airbox for it. It still draws air from that big hole on the side of the engine bay.
