Default Vortech BOV Question: Is this a NO NO?

I have the V2SQ, with the factory Vortech BOV. I read somewhere a while back that the copper colored, conical filter was a silencer and that by removing it woke up the BOV a bit. Well, I removed it, car does sound different, but my question is, is this a bad thing to leave off? Reason I ask, I can't find the damn thing. It fell off my wrench and is now somewhere on the road or on the bottom of my engine bay. I don't know if replacing it is even necessary, all help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Jared

This....????

That's odd, I found this searching here, but want a more current answer.

The filter is for CARB. Because there is a blow by tube that enters the intake air passage there is the possibility the air has some oil vapor in it. The filter is to keep the vapor from leaving the intake. Smog considerations aside, it is not necessary.

Called Vortech, they said it was to protect the diaphram from
debris, non-issue. Ordered a replacement for $12 shipped

Those words look familiar. That quote is for the filter on the outlet and not the scintered one you removed.

Yeah there is a separate filter that goes on the outlet that is what is being mentioned above not what you show in the picture. 2 separate things..
