Default Vortech SC

I read the information on both the Vortech SC and the Comptech SC but can't seem to find the answer to a couple of questions. I see that the Vortech SC with AC has a couple of features that the Comptech does not seem to have (I'm not sure)???

1) Vortech AC has a tank that you can put chilled water in? If true does Comptech have that feature?
2) Vortech SC provides a fresh supply of oil to the bearings and gears. Is that because it gets its oil directly from the oil pan? And how does the Comptech lubricate its bearings and gears? How is the oil changed if it doesn't tap into the pan?

I'm looking at the differences purely from a maintenance standpoint and can't seem to figure it out. Maybe one of you folks that has a Comptec SC/AC unit can help me out?

I'd also like to know the same from those that may have the Vortech SC/AC unit.

The answer to #1 is the Vortech does have a holding tank but without significant modification you can not drain/add fluids. This is a non point since the cooler is very efficient and cools down the circulating fluid very quickly. After 4 dyno pulls at the shop last month my aftercooler was not hot to the touch. The fluid continues to circulate and cool as long as the ignition is on.

#2 Both systems are oiled from the circulating engine oil. The difference is the returns. The Comptech has a special drain bolt where the oil returns and Vortech you tap the pan above the oil level for the return. Both systems work well with the Comptech return being involved when you drain your oil. Vortech you never think about it.

Thanks...I understand more now but not clear on something. What happens with the Comptech unit assuming you drain the oil in the car and the same for the blower. At initial start is the blower running without lubrication until oil pressure finally brings oil through the line? Also what unit do you have?

I've known people to base their decision on which charger to get based solely on the different oil taps.

People get so paranoid with tapping the oil pan with the Vortech kit but it's really not a big deal. You deal with it one time putting in the tap...and then forget about it. The Comptech kit uses the stock drain which is convenient for the initial installation.... but then your dealing with it every time you do an oil change..... and you can forget trusting some unsuspecting mechanic to baby the fitting.

I ended up with a Comptech kit for different reasons. Both are good kits.

FWIW all factory turbo systems (that I know of) position the oil drain above the oil level to prevent backup in the line. If the return is below the oil level there is a possibility of it draining slowly and backing up. With the drain above the oil level the drain will be unrestricted at all times and allow a consistent drain.
