Default Vortech Warranty Question?

Hi all!

I bought my MY02 with a Vortech already installed and it is very noisey. The SC has 30,000 miles on it. It has the rocks rattling in a can sound, but mine doesnt really go away with throttle. It seems pretty rediculous considering its an SQ - Super Quite!!

I've asked several people to listen to it and they agree its noisey but dont think its on its way out yet.

I think it needs new bearings. I read on a BMW site, where someone had said that Vortech had used a bad/noisey batch of bearings around the same time this one was bought. This guy also went on to say that you needed to specifiaclly tell Vortech to put the new quiet bearings in otherwise you could end up with the same noisey bearings.

I guess theres a couple things I'm looking for here.

1) Do you think Vortech or a Vortech distributor would warranty this for me without getting the orriginal purchaser involved? I can, if I have too but would rather not.

2) Anyone have experience with noisey bearings and having Vortech warranty them? And the bearing replacement actually quiet the rocks in a can sound?

Thanks

Well at least I'm not alone.

I heard some real nasty noise clips from other vortech installs on other cars and I just can't believe this is supposed to be normal!

Are you going to send it in for the minor rebuild? I'm hessitant to send it in, especially if I'm paying for it, if its just gonna sound the same when it comes back!

all centrifugal SC have a noise coming from them at idle and while staying out of boost. its a whisting sound. if you give a more specific detail of what the sound is could get better help

yeah if it's louder then normal and doesn't go away after throttle then it's your bearing....

I believe the warrenty is 3 years for Vortech.

I met a guy last Saturday that put a Vortech non SQ on his Ford and you could hear him from over a 1/4 mile away. It was way over 100 decibels.

The do tend to be noisy.

I wish it was just the whistle, that would be cool. It has the whistle sound plus the added bonus of rocks or marbles being rattled around in a can. From what I've read a lot of people say the sound should go away as you throttle the car up but mine just gets more annoying.

Heres a BMW with the same noise as mine.

Noisey Vortech!

Doesn't make sense that some SC's are quiet and others are noisey unless there is a physical difference between a quiet one and a noisey one, like bad bearings.

So Vortech will replace the bearings under warranty? I called Vortech to ask if this was normal and the guy was real short with me, telling me they make noise. Not very customer service oriented. He said if I thought it was bad to send it in along with $500 to do a minor rebuild. He offered no reassurances that the noise would be gone after the minor rebuild. Like I said before, this seems pretty hokie.

I've read and heard sound clips of brand new units that make this noise. If its a bad bearing, why hasnt Vortech issued a recall? I think your telling me that if I complain to Vortech they should replace it with something that doesn't rattle?

Hahahaha! How can that be acceptable? Was it a brand new unit? Was he told this was normal?
