does it make that noise under load or just at idle?

just at idle. I compared it to a friends and it was normal. VT just uses loose ashpalt to pack their bearings i guess

Normal gear backlash causes the noise, not the bearings. That's why the noise goes away when the SC is loaded. Raising the idle speed slightly = no gravel sound
