Default What is Comptech Aftercooler material?

Guys,

Is the aftercooler assembly aluminum?

I want to use steel wool and maybe some high grit sandpaper to polisht his piece up to a shine before re-installing

Anyone who has done this have tips? Would using metal polish help?

Was going to do this by hand so not sure if this is even possible....hahaha

thanks,
rick

Yeah, it's aluminium. If you get a drill or angle grinder mounted buffing wheel and some compound it will buff up nicely.

Thanks, I'm going to pick some of the compound after work and use my Dremel if possible.

Stay tuned for pics before re-installation.

I think you'll kill a dremel doing all that. I picked up a bench grinder and polishing wheel for less than $50 in Aus so you shouldn't have any problem in the US.

You need a full size buffing wheel. The dremel is good for really small stuff, but not large areas.

Go to harbor freight and buy a bench polisher, only like $70.00, get some metal polish and you could polish that thing in about 10 minutes. I used to polish aluminum bike frames using the same method, it produces a miror finish. If the aluminum has any anodizing on it you can strip it off with oven cleaner.

I wet sanded mine and used some compounds on it a few months ago. I also tried using a dremel and it didn't work out very well at all, an angle grinder would be your best bet. I ended up doing it all by hand and it turned out pretty nice.
