Default What kind of gauges are people running?

Is there a preferred brand/style of gauge these days? I see DEFI still makes nice looking gauges. I have a PLX multi gauge that is great for oil pressure/temp/water temp, but need a boost gauge and afr gauge. I was a big fan of the old greddy peak hold gauges but they stopped making them a while ago it seems. Looks like a lot of people run the AEM AFR gauge, but I'm open to suggestions. I know gauges aren't as important these days compared to datalogs but peak hold gauges are nice to be able to quickly reference things.

I run a dual pillar pod with a defi 52mm red racer boost gauge on top and a aem serial gauge on the bottom. The aem serial gauge plugs straight into my aem series 2 and can read almost anything like air fuel, boost, rpm, water temp and lots of other stuff. And I have zextronic ethanol content gauge mounted under the cruise control button.

I had PLX. Will be selling or giving them away. I could never read them in sunlight, and they didn't alway boot up and read.

I replaced them with AEM. The AEM are much easier to read and see with the top down and they just work. The response time of the WBO2 is much faster too. Some people do have reliability issues with the AEM brass pressure sensors and AEM WBO2 sensors. Replacing the brass sensors with SS and the WBO2 sensor normally fixes those issues. Their CAN-based WBO2 is amazing on cars where the CAN protocol is supported.

I also have SpeedHut on another car- this allowed me to match the factory gauges and use a NGK AFX WBO2. NGK AFX was built by ECM and is likely the best 'consumer' wideband on the market. Ballenger Motorsports worked with ECM to develop their AFR500 to replace the NGK AFX and is an improved/updated variant of the original.

Are gauges even still realistically required with the latest ECUs like Infinity & Haltech which are much more responsive & robust in terms of failsafes? I won't be running any on my Infinity setup. I'll be feeding it oil temp, oil pressure, fuel pressure, & ethanol content data though.

Thx for the posts guys appreciate it. Gauges aren't required but it sure helps for a quick check to tell you what's going on without having to pull up datalogs/break out a computer. I like that setup riceball, I'll probably do something similar. A peak/hold boost gauge would be nice, but they don't seem to be super common. It looks like there are quite a few Chinese made gauges/cheaper stuff out there (no surprise), but the small savings aren't worth the headache down the road imo.

Is there a preferred wideband setup these days? Are they all very accurate/response? I'm running flashpro and I think there's an option to wire in a wideband (I know the stock sensor is a wideband as well). Anyone with any input it's much appreciated.

i had one and my laptop died while i was rewriting the serial gauge and its dead now. Basically the firmware is now corrupt and wont power on. Kinda a big bummer. But aem came out with a serieal to can adapter. Its $100 and its sub 200 for a aem can gauge which is essentially a serial gauge for us aem v1 guys. If your v2 just get the can gauge and your good. I emailed aem asking as the serial to can is more so designed to be able to run a aem dash with series 1 but they said although not tested they dont see why it wouldnt work

I’ve got an AEM 3 in 1, boost ethanol and afr for sale if you’re interested. Text Max at (414) 379-2728 comes with sensors. Super nice gauge. Selling because going with a Motec or Haltech.

I have the aem can bus multi gauge. It’s just a dumb gauge with peak functionality. Whereas I believe the old aem serial gauge had the ability to set alarms/warnings
