S2000 Forced Induction S2000 Turbocharging and S2000 supercharging, for that extra kick.

What is this, and what does it do?

Thumbs up What is this, and what does it do?

So i was doing some google searching looking at different ideas for a build in a year or so, and came across this..The material located in the water jackets...Is this a reinforcment that goes into the water jackets for structure? Sorry for the dumb questions, but ive never seen this before.

that my friend is called a block guard. it helps keeps the walls from moving under serious load. you can buy them and have it pressed in at a machine shop and then they will resurface the head and hone the block to ensure that the walls are straight(they tend to warp a tiny bit when those are installed) and true.

or, if you buy a bad-ass block by GE, AEBS, Darton, they come with them already and in those cases they are called mid sleeved blocks and they need the guard because the sleeves are pressed in, not cast like the original cyl's.

Those are most used by open deck guys running thinner cylinders, i.e. you will usually see them on B & D series Honda blocks.

Not needed for our motors.

Thats what i thought, the picture kinda explained itself to me but i didnt want to assume something. Ive read where drag cars put cement or some shit in the water jackets for 1000+hp. I had read this so im not stating it as a fact, but i just found it interesting, because ive seen a lot of the builds on here, and havent ever seen it, or maybe i just missed it???

The older D series honda blocks (and to a lesser extent, the B series) had really weak sleeves that would crack under stress. Block guards were one of the ways that the old school guys tried to strengthen their blocks. (They didn't work particularly well and aren't used very often anymore)

Some sleeves have something like the block guard on the sleeve as another measure of support. GE sleeves look like what you see in that picture. AEBS t-sleeves convert an open deck motor to a solid deck motor. You can see what it looks like right over here: http://www.aebsracing.com/products/t-sleeves
The block pictured there is an open deck honda block after t-sleeve installation.

The F2xC sleeves aren't weak, which might be one of the reasons you don't see much of that going on over here. It could also be just that people aren't throwing around pictures of built/sleeved engines over here. (for good reason, the engine in an S2k isn't a weakling)
