What would make my car run cooler?

Default What would make my car run cooler?

It's getting kinda hot here, and with me racing the car regularly... underhood temps are becoming a main concern for me now.

Which would be a better buy, an oil cooler or a vented hood? I'm thinking of either the Greddy oil cooler, or a Seibon CW hood. (Everyone around here has the MG style or the VS style hood and I like to be different.) They are both roughly the same in price.

I am thinking the hood would help more because the heat can get out of the bay faster. I can only see the oil cooler helping while I'm moving.

So, what would be the better solution?

And why do you say that, i.e. any proof or experience?

Do some searches, a while back there was a member that did a before and after temperature test on vented hoods. I belief he used some sort of cooking thermometer with a remote probe to conduct the test.

If I remember the results correctly, there was an improvement in under the hood temp with a vented hood at both idle and roll at 60mph. Don't quote me though, I would recommend you looking it up yourself.

Your saying your under the hood temps are too high for your liking, an oil cooler isn't going to change that -- a vented hood will

Well, wouldn't an oil cooler create a cooler running engine thus making the bay cooler?

I'm just trying to keep things cool while running it on the track and in stop and go traffic.

I cut out the two holes in the front bumper (like the fake brake ducts) and used like 3-4" ducting to get fresh air flow into the Engibe bay, I will post pics, I don't want to cut holes in my hood

Yeah, I was thinking about cutting my hood... but I just can't bring myself to do it.

And yeah, post pics up. I don't think I'll have enough room, but...

Vented hood. A oil cooler won't help the heat put off by the turbo. It's purpose is to keep the turbo temps from cooking the oil. A new hood is a better solution I think.
