RE71s will behave like hockey pucks in those temps. Compound is not meant for at or near freezing temperatures. That and aftermarket suspension likely set to the stiffer side = tire hop/wheel hop.

55 is nowhere near freezing although iirc they are not recommended below 45. i raced in those temps with no issues, but one the street you just cant get enough heat in them. after letting them spin pretty good for a couple pulls they typically hook in the upper gears just fine.
