Default Wheel weight on Turbo S2k

Hey guys, just had a quick thought. I know normally wheel weight on a stock s2k makes a decent difference when your going from stock to something lighter. In my case, to ssr 17x7.5 that weighed 14 pounds. I had 215 in the front and 235 in the rear.(Staggered tire setup but 17x7.5 all around). Once i got the turbo, I saw that i couldnt get much traction on first or second gear due to the tires + wheel weight.

Then i purchased some stock ap2 wheels and now im running 225 in the front and 255 in the rear. As far as traction, I seem to grip much better on first and second gear when hit it hard but im I losing performance after that since these wheels plus tire combo probably added close to 10 pounds in the rear?

My friend was telling me that once your making nice hp numbers, the tire weight is not as important as compared to stock. What do you guys think? If someone has some type of quarter mile time slips to show the difference, that would be great.

I know stock, when i installed my ssr type c's, I shaved close to .2 seconds off the quarter mile.

went from 235 to a 255. More contact patch assuming both are the same tires of course you're going to get more traction.

Keep the ssr. go with 255 and something sticky. you will be fine

The extra grip on launch will more than make up for 10 lbs, especially a sticky tire. Maybe you increased your wheel diameter which can affect gearing

Thanks for the replies. I used to have 235/50/17 an now i have 255/45/17 so the height should be similar. Again im not sure if I'm actually going slower when im taking off but I always heard that for every pound added to the rear, it was like adding 3-5 pounds to the car. So in my setup, its like adding close to 100-150 pounds on the car.

I wanted to keep the SSr's but couldnt find a rear size either 17x9 or 17x8x5. I have a few potential buyers on ebay so if they sell, if rims do make that much of a difference, I will take that money and buy a used set of wheels.

Or, I can invest on some turbo upgrades,(Upgrade spring, change out exaust or get boost actived cutout, etc).

I kinda like having the stock look since everybody tells me it looks clean and its kinda like having a sleeper, just need to paint the intercooler black.

You don't need to paint the intercooler black, it will still look relatively stock if you keep the grill in.
