Just a thought. Seems my aftercooler gets heat soaked very fast when driving around town and waiting in line at the strip. Anyone ever use DEI heat tape and wrap the after cooler to help with heat soak? Maybe just reflect some of the heat off thats coming from the SC. Any thoughts would help. And what would be better the silver or gold tape. or would it even matter........

 

What Aftercooler do you have?

Wouldn't blocking the airflow of the outside air make it even worse? Regardless of what you are wrapping it with. It's essentially a radiator, and having air move through it is what cools the charge correct?

With a high boost application like what you are running, the stock comptech aftercooler is wayyy too small from what I've read. You are running the 3.0" pulley correct? I will be running the 3.2" pulley and boosting about 12-13psi and I wasn't even gonna consider running the stock aftercooler.

I would recommend upgrading your aftercooler and water pump to alleviate your heat soak issues.

 

Wrapping it should help. I know someone that jet hott coated it with good results. Also adding a large heat exchanger as well as a reservoir tank to the sytem would be beneficial as well. The more water you can get in the system, the better.

A cold air intake can help if done properly. The sos and Comptech kit have similar blower positions, so a cai should be similar. There are threads on the sos cai already up.

 

Wrapping the aftercooler itself not the heat exchanger. Yes I have a spearco large heat exchanger and just installed the upgrade Bosch pump. But was thinking if I cover my water lines in the engine bay and the aftercooler this would help keep the water cooler longer. Just wanted to see who has tried thus and if it would work or be a waste of time n money.

 

It would help, but I think adding the reservoir would benefit most. Vortech sells their triangular reservoir that came with their s2000 kits seperately. For about $50, it adds another 2 quarts to the system that's not in the engine bay.

Second would probably be wrapping or coating the Aftercooler. What's stopping me is a clean finish with the wrap.

 

Vent your diverter valve or bov for lower iats as well. I noticed a performance difference in traffic between the two.

 

Vent my bov? I'm running a Godzilla bov not sure what u mean by vent it. I thought about using Defi cool tape and wrapping my aftercooler with foil then cover it with the tape and kinda make a removable blanket. That way at shows I can take it off and put it on when at the track. Guess it wouldn't hurt to try.

 

Previous owner of my comptech kit had wrapped the aftercooler and air intake arm in the silver reflective tape. I removed it because I didn't like the way it looked. With the upgraded HX and Bosch pump my aftercooler is'nt hot to the touch at autox events. Immediately following a run its cool to the touch. As soon as you start moving its going to cool down. I don't know how much of a difference the reflective tape would make.
