I might be totally wrong here, but I thought you only use "an" if the following word starts with a vowel.

I think Gregg Writing Reference Manual says that you also use "an" if the following word starts with a letter that "sounds" like a vowel. So in this case "S2000" begins with a vowel sound: "es"-2000, or "I'd like to have 'an' 'ar'X-7 (RX-7)"

does that sound correct? I guess it feels awkward to say "I drvie 'A' S2000" versus, "I drive 'an' S2000."
