Compressors for achieving "boost" for automotive applications come in two main forms: the so-called "snail" type, which is a "turbine", veined type AND a "roots" type, which is basically 2 "screws" that turn side by side inside a tight housing.
The snail type can be used by both turbos and superchargers. The "roots" type is restricted to belt driven superchargers.
In a turbo application, the compressing turbine is connected by a shaft to the "driving" turbine, which is spun by exhaust gases. In a supercharger application, this shaft has a pulley on the end which is driven by a belt off the engines crank pulley.

Any one of numerous marine gastropods of the genus Turbo or family Turbinid[ae], usually having a turbinate shell, pearly on the inside, and a calcareous operculum.
Hehe. On a more serious note, "turbo" is simply a shortened form of "turbine." Therefore, since the blower used by Vortech is a turbine, it is proper to call it a turbo - although obviously not a common usage.

Interestingly, according to Merriam-Webster, a "turbocharger" is "a centrifugal blower driven by exhaust gas turbines and used to supercharge an engine." Notce that turbocharger is a subset of supercharger?

I have an EVO7, which is turbo chargre... on Exhaust... I know that (Actully I though it was on an electirc motor snail)..

BUT ANYWAY,,,,,,,,


I've visited the garage today, and they have installed most of the items... the oil pan has been drilled for the oil pressure i don't know what......... SC turbine has been installed with the airfilter and the intercooler........

I hope by this weekend (Thursday-Friday) she will be home, and I will be sharing with you guys some photos and the DYNO results.....

The oil pan is drilled to allow the oil to return to the engine after it has passed through the SC. The oil feed to the SC is via a "T" peice fitted between the oil pressure sensor and engine.
