Default Another new DD post

hi guys,

picked up new Mazdaspeed 3 yesterday. i chose the GT version, which adds HIDs, alcantara/leather seats, and a bunch of other stuff. this car is really moves. torque is ever present. 3rd gear just makes you smile. really nice rumble from the exhaust. interior is surprisingly of decent quality.

onto the pics..

looks gigantic next to the S!

I've driven my friend's speed 3 a few times and it's a GREAT daily driver. Lots of midrange torque and the interior is really nice compared to cars of equal cost.

Two things I disliked about the car tho. 1) The torque is limited in 1st and 2nd gear to prevent wheel spin. 2) the power band is actually pretty narrow...between 3-5k rpm. It spikes fast from low end to 4.5 to 5k, then the power drops off for the rest of the RPM band. Not necessarily a bad thing...I'm just too used to the s2000 having it's power band higher in the RPM range.

Fun car to drive on a day to day basis tho...i'm jealous

you're right about the torque and power band; i guess they had to limit the torque in 1st and 2nd, to try to control all that torque steer. from what i've been reading, there are aftermarket motor mounts? that will help w/wheel hop and allow you to put more power to the ground. also, i've read that w/a CAI, TP/DP, it does widen the power band a bit...

yes, it's a completely different driving experience compared to the S.

one thing is for sure, i'm downsizing to 16 or 17in steel wheels and blizzaks for the winter..
